Google adds games to Google+

Gaming

Google announced on Thursday that it is following in Facebook’s footsteps yet again by adding games to its Google+ social network. “We want to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web,” the company said in a blog post. “That means giving you control over when you see games, how you play them and with whom you share your experiences.” Thankfully we won’t be bombarded with Farmville requests and updates on Mafia Wars: “games in Google+ are there when you want them and gone when you don’t,” the company said. A new ‘Games’ button will be added to the top of the Google+ stream that will bring users to the gaming page. Launch titles include Angry Birds,  Bejeweled Blitz, Bubble Island, City of Wonder, Collapse! Blast, Crime City, Diamond Dash, Dragon Age Legends, Dragons of Atlantis, Edge World, Flood-It!, Monster World, Sudoku, Wild Ones, Zombie Lane and Zynga Poker. Google will be rolling out the update to its users gradually and it will be available to all users “soon.”

If I had more than 11 friends on Google+ it might be more fun.

    The facebook-ification of Google+ begins….

This feels kind of obvious in retrospect. Of course they’re trying to take the best parts of Facebook and remove the parts that people don’t like… I mean, Facebook has 750 million users. For all the complaining we do, they’re clearly doing a lot of things right.

That said, how is a game like Mafia Wars going to work when you’re supposed to be constantly bombarding your friends and getting them to join up with you?

Even in facebook, you can very easily click the x mark on the top right hand corner of the post, and choose option to block all feeds from that source. e.g. if your friends bombard you with mafiawar request, or post bonuses from farmville, you can just block these two application with a simple click.

There are two problems with it that I hope Google+ removes.

First, each time there is a new game, you start getting the feed and then you have to block it.  I hope Google+ thing would be that you wont be getting any feed that you are not subscribed to.

Second, if you actually play the game and you block the annoying feed, you can not get the bonuses and you can not ask friends for help.   I hope the Google+ solution would be that you have seperate tabs for circle feed and game feed with circle feed being the default tab.

Don’t do it.  I come to G+ to avoid this stuff and actually communicate with people.  If I wanted games, I’d go to Miniclip and share my scores through them.  This may be G+ first horse of the social network apocalypse…

Google+ looks like it’s shaping up to be very good, now could Google just make it available for Google Apps users!

Hopefully the google will have a different types of games, it should be different from the games of facebook. But they must have good, unique and advance games. I think this is a good idea because most of the people who using computer are love computer games.
