Sprint to end port credit promotion ahead of schedule

Exclusive

Sprint will end its current port credit promotion more than a month and a half ahead of schedule. This past May, Sprint kicked off a promotion that offered up to $125 per line for new subscribers who ported their service in from another carrier. Customers purchasing a feature phone and porting in a number receive $50 per line as part of the promotion, and new customers purchasing a smartphone, netbook, notebook, tablet or mobile broadbrand device and porting in a number receive a $125 service credit per line. This enticing promotion was scheduled to run from May 4th through October 1st of this year, however BGR has learned from a reliable source that Sprint is ending the promotion early. Tomorrow, in fact. Interestingly, Sprint retail locations will no longer offer or advertise the promotion, but they will continue to honor it through the original end date. In the event that a new customer already knows about the promo — and only in that event, we’re told — Sprint will honor the deal and dole out the associated credits. With that in mind, those looking to move over to Sprint for one of its great new phones like the Motorola PHOTON 4G should be sure to mention the promotion when making a purchase at a Sprint retail location, as the promo will no longer be offered up willingly starting tomorrow.

The must have hit their customer goal much faster than planned. I’m waiting till the October 7th meeting explaining their 4G strategy.

Where did you hear the 10/7 date for their 4G announcement?

I’ve learned the real reason why they had to scale back on the instant rebates too.  It cost them $120 million.  Their flagship devices will still be rebate free, but this new strategy must show gains.

I forgot all about this.  Sprint sure is making strides….

I’m more curious to see if the customers they pulled in will offset the customers they lose in the same time period.

Could they be gearing up for a fall iPhone launch??? Can’t really think of any valid reasons for that argument but thought it should be offered as a possibility……

So they’re not really ending it, just no longer advertising it lol.

I just paid $22.85 for an iPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

I agree with TechManMike. It really sounds like Sprint and Apple just finalized the iPhone 5/4S/whatever deal, and decided to de-publicize this deal before any iPhone defectors from AT&T switched over. They’d much rather sell a new iPhone for 199$ + 2 year contract, than 75$ + 2 year contract.

Who’s “they?” I’m assuming you mean just Sprint because Apple gets paid the same amount by Sprint for each iPhone they purchase, regardless if Sprint sells them for $200 or gives them away for free.

The credit is still very much available. This title is extremely misleading.
