Sprint to offer cloud services in Q4

Services

Sprint’s head of business markets Paget Alves recently confirmed to CNET that the carrier will launch cloud-based services during the fourth quarter of this year. The offering will be available to small and medium sized business customers. Sprint will provide security, software and Internet hosting, and it will also offer an “infrastructure as a service” option, Alves told CNET. “The telcos are in a unique position because our business is centered around the cloud,” Alves said. “There’s quite a bit of demand. It’s the [number one] topic of conversation with [chief information officers].” Other carriers are also working on cloud-based services; in April, Verizon Wireless acquired cloud and managed IT infrastructure leader Terremark Worldwide for $1.4 billion.

    Let the apple copying begin!!!!

    • David Dawes

Apple didn’t invent cloud services, they copied others. If Sprint is rolling it out now, they’ve been working on it for a while, since well before Apple released their derivative cloud service.

Given Sprint’s history of investing in losing propositions (i.e., Global One, Q-chat, WiMAX…just to name a few), I would expect that this will become a folly at best…with Sprint having to once again walk away with its proverbial tail between its legs.  Ah well…they’ll soon go bankrupt anyway since they have a tremendous amount of debt that comes due in 2015.

That cancer of a company Nextel was probably the biggest losing proposition that Sprint invested in. Alas, that mistake will be rectified when the iDEN network is put to pasture in the near future. BTW Dejan, could you tell us how much that “tremendous amount of debt” is exactly? Thanks!

As an aside, looking at your activity is quite amusing. This obsession that you obviously have with Sprint can’t be healthy. Seek professional help, man!! Kinda ironic given your alleged profession…

I just paid $22.85 for an iPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com
