How to make Apple's OS X Lion less horrible

Computers

Apple made Lion, its eighth major OS X release, available to Mac computer users on July 20th, and the Cupertino-based tech giant noted in the first sentence of its press release that Lion includes “more than 250 new features.” Unfortunately for a seemingly large group of users — this editor included — the only new features that really mattered were the numerous annoyances that came to light after just a few minutes of usage. The new autocorrect, the annoying new event behavior in iCal, the lack of key repeat, the bizarre defaults set throughout the OS… we could go on for quite a while. Some love these new features while others seriously considered rolling back to Snow Leopard. While unhappy users will have adjust to much of the new behavior if they wish to continue using Lion, there is now an answer for several common gripes: Lion Tweaks. Developed by “Fredrik W,” Lion Tweaks allows users to dial back some of the improvements that are common sources of agony, including the new spelling correction feature, a bunch of annoying animations and more. Lion Tweaks is at version 1.2 right now, and it looks like the app is being actively developed, so we can hopefully expect new capabilities soon. Hit the break to download the utility from the developer’s site.

Swear to God…my blood pressure was hitting the roof after one week of trying to get used to Lion’s “improvements”…I had enough, created a new partition and went back to Snow Leopard, man what a relief! Never hated a Mac OS upgrade as much as I did Lion. When Jobs gets back, heads will and should roll at Apple, what the heck were they thinking!

BTW, Lion on last year’s MBA sucks like you won’t believe…overheating, incompatibilities, degraded battery life….

What, people don’t appreciate a little hyperbole?  It’s not like I’m completely wrong in my assertion.

I’m selling my MacBook Pro and 8 Core MacPro (on ebay now), had enough of Apple and their control freakery… but besides that, I’m glad to be rid of the OSX pet peaves, like not being able to cut and paste files, not being able to copy a directory path from finder and paste it in the File Open or Save As… requesters to sidestep having to manually find the path of a current folder, not being able to do anything in File Open other than open a file, and then not being able to sort by file size, find not being able to sort results by path or size etc etc etc…
    I will miss two things
1/ colour coding folders and files
2/ spotlight is faster than windows indexing
3/ ok I lied about 2 things… I LOVE having an apple to tell isheep how i prefer to run win7 on my apple hardware.

How to make Lion less horrible? I removed it from my Mac. Biggest piece of garbage Apple has produced in a long time. If that’s moving forward, I’m staying with Snow Leopard.

I like everything about Lion except the fact that they took away Rosetta and won’t let us install it even if unsupported. Great OS upgrade. The new gestures are fantastic. Love Mission Control and Launchpad. Lots of nice refinements that take a little getting use to.

The whiners and complainers are just suffering from resistance to change.

All this article shows is that the writer doesn’t use iOS devices. Lion functions similar to the iPad (pretty much identical). The GUI is smoother & that’s saying a lot considering Snow Leopard was really good. The “read later” feature in Safari alone makes the “read it later” & “instapaper” apps useless. Once iOS 5 is launched, Lion becomes even more powerful. LaunchPad is great. It allows me to keep my dock free of apps I don’t use a lot, but gives me access to them with a “pinch”. Clearly your job is to discredit Apple products. Nice try!

Lion, with warts and all, is so far from horrible. Some things are bad. I’ve given up on LaunchPad. And automatically quitting apps in the background that don’t have any open documents is probably a good idea on the MacBook Air, it’s not a good thing for such a great multitasking OS. But no doubt we’ll be able to shut that off soon.

And I’m still not so sure about a few other things. But some things about it are great and I would never go back once I’ve installed it. (Still waiting at work for a fix for Active Directory.)

It’s like when they invented the cup holder in cars and people had to stop putting their coffees in between their legs.  Man where they really upset!  But eventually they got used to dry crotches.  Can we all just calm down?  They are just computers.  Get up, go outside and go for a walk once in awhile.

I would want to go back to Snow Leopard. In fact, my editing system is still on Snow Leopard and when I’m on it, I find myself missing all the new features I have on my Air.

As usual, I think most people just don’t like change. Most of the features in Lion are really nice. But then again, I have found that I’m quite adaptable to new technology.

Five things I really like: Natural Scrolling. It may not be what you’re used to but it makes sense. 2) Full screen apps. Makes space hogging applications a treat. 3) The new Mail. It takes some of the ease of use from iOS and drops it into the desktop environment. 4) Gestures. I rarely eve have to click anymore. 5) Resume. I totally dig my applications picking up where I left off.

As for the autocorrect, it is really nice. Better than any other system I’ve worked on. It gives options, quick ‘yes or no’ ability and when you go back to a word, perhaps you didn’t want corrected, it shows you what you originally had.

    I like it a lot.

I just paid $22.85 for an iPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

    Not sure if bugs…
    Or features.

After the piece of shit Snow Leopard upgrade… people are shocked that Lion is even more of a piece of shit?  Go back to Leopard… be free and happy, and observe what a Mac is supposed to work like.  Everyone should know that you get what you pay for… 30 dollars equates to shit.  And it has two times in a row now.  Maybe now people will be smart enough to just wait for OS 11, because OSX is spent.
