Apple to activate speech-to-text in iOS 5

mobile

We’ve heard rumors that Apple will a include Siri-powered “Assistant” voice command option ahead of the official iOS 5 launch, and now 9to5Mac has learned that Apple will also add Nuance-powered speech-to-text functionality. As the screenshots show, users will simply need to tap the microphone button next to the space bar in order to activate the feature. When active, a larger microphone image will pop up to alert the user to begin speaking. The functionality is similar to what’s already available on Android smartphones and we hope it performs just as well. Hopefully we’ll see text-to-speech implemented in an upcoming iOS 5 beta build, otherwise we’ll have to wait until September when the official public release hits. Read on for a second screen shot.

    What???
I’ve had that in my last windows phone, AND my current Android phone for well over a year.
I will grant Apple this point.  I’ll bet their software recognition will work better….just hope it works better than their predictive texting one LOL.

I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

Android had it first. I’ve been having fun with my Nexus S for a long time now.

Does iOS 5 come with a license to be a pompous hipster doofus?  Me thinks so.

Now it’s Google’s turn to sue Apple for using voice search patented by someone else, but Android had it first :p
