Apple releases iOS 5 beta 5 [updated]

Breaking

Enjoying a quiet Saturday? Well, Apple has just released iOS 5 beta 5 for developers. While the update continues the tradition of bringing OTA updates to iOS devices, beta 5 will require your device to be erased before being able to update — a little frustrating, though it’s obviously not meant for the general public. Apple also released an updated iTunes 10.5 beta 5 and Apple TV beta 4.

  • I have noticed the ability to send a photo from the camera roll directly to the Messages app for iMessage or MMS, additionally the inclusion of a camera button in the camera roll to skip back to the camera after viewing a photo.
  • The terrible autocorrect algorithm seems to have been fixed.

Can’t get mine to update OTA. Just says beta 4 is the current version.

Is your’s jailbroken if it is apple scans through your devise and says no update

I can’t get the OTA to work either. It just tells me that my current software is up to date. I’m at work and want to do it now dammit!

      try to restart your phone

I’m still having the same issue where it says i’m on the latest release after rebooting phone, syncing and erasing. Any other thoughts?

      • Anonymous

That’s all it took for me. I guess you may have to actually download the update and apply it in iTunes. But then again, I did it on my iPad, maybe its different for the iPhone.

      • Realtuty

It has to be plugged on and connected to wifi

    • Peltzt

In the notes it says we need to, “To install iOS 5 beta 5 using over the air software update, you must first erase all content and settings on your device by choosing Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.” I just backed up my iPhone to the iCloud and to iTunes. Let’s see if it works…

Yeah I did a reset on my iPad it worked like a charm. I guess I’ll have to wait to get home to back up my iPhone before doing the update.

    Boom. It just works.

Boom, the two posts above you say it does in fact just work.

Beta folks, outside of Google companies select a few (thousand) people to help test their software before them consider it GM material.

Funny though that the two posts above you seem to suggest that even Apple’s Beta software “just works”.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to wipe anything to update.

Mine updated without a problem over wifi, not plugged in…and without erasing anything. I got a notification telling me an update is available in settings (pushed – got that red bubble thing on bottom corner).

EDIT: WiFi sync works. I updated iTunes from beta 4 to beta 5 (wired sync was working just fine) and restarted my computer.

I just did the OTA update without doing anything other then going into settings, software update and update. It just worked and itunes beta 4 recognized it

    • sirpaul

Did you get wifi sync to work? I am on windows and it is not working for me. And yes, I did enable it in iTunes with my phone plugged in first.

Have posted video with new features that I have noticed on my youtube channel: NatesTechUpdate
Hearing aid mode, new button in camera roll to take you back to camera application, personal setup now gives more info of certain features, and pressing the home button during personal setup will allow you to head back to Wi-Fi settings.Watch the video to see these features in action. Thanks

I think I’d be worried if I were Jobsey – I mean, really, is there anything that can live up to the hype and anticipation of the “5″?   It’s almost certain to disappoint a good portion of the drooling masses.

I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

The BGR app is crashing in beta 5!!! Damn!

Also I noticed you can swipe now in te camera app:
    - swipe from left to right brings you to the camera roll
    - swipe through your pictures as usual
    - and swiping back gets you to te camera app again!

    - also noticed if you have the keyboard in the Message app so you can type but want to scroll through your messages it slides down slowly as you scroll upwards!

    Just some of my findings…

All of these were introduced in previous betas. Where have you been?
