Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 TouchWiz update rolling out now

Software

Right on schedule, Samsung’s TouchWiz update began rolling out to Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners on Friday. The update provides a number of visual enhancements to the user interface including a live panel view, a new mini mode tray for quick access to open applications, a clipboard, an indicator quick panel and a photo editor. Samsung also added Amazon Music Player, Words with Friends, Samsung Media Hub, Social Hub, the Swype keyboard and Kindle software. To update simply go to Settings > About Tablet > Update. Unfortunately, it looks like Samsung hasn’t pushed the patch out to its Limited Edition Google I/O Galaxy Tab 10.1 or to Verizon’s 4G LTE version just yet, but we’re hoping it does soon.

This is how android gained popularity in the smartphone arena. we shall see how this works out. Crapple fan boys will no doubt scream fragmentation but it hasnt really stop the Android phone market has it.

    • Anonymous

My main problem with the fragmentation issue is how some apps like Netflix are only supported by a few devices, I mean what kind of shit is that when Android is a open OS.

      • Anonymous

        It’s not an open OS.

      • Guest

It is… I think you’re referring to the fact that sources for honeycomb havn’t been released. However it was promised that Ice Cream Sandwich will be open.

A device I have to hack to gain full use (my android phone) is not ask open device.

You seriously making the case that NON-STOCK Android is what drives Android sales?

You really think that Touch Wiz is the differentiator that wowz ppl over?

It’s not the fact that I can buy an unlocked Android phone for 100-150 bucks?
It’s not the fact that stock Android allows free tethering.

On the consumer end, a 2 year contract gives a decently specked android phone?
Ppl buy phones every 2 years. They can make the case for buying an expensive phone because it’s something they use EVERY day. For work, for play.

The fact that they have decided to pay the internet fee on their phone is already a given. The fact that it comes with a free Android phone is the gravy that pushes the train.

The iPad has been out for 2 generations and it still doesnt have the apps necessary to 90% replace a netbook. The app situation on Android Tabs are far worse.
The Killer App on Phones is the internet and the PHONE.

What’s the killer app on Honeycomb? A bigger screen for Mail? Come now.

      • Mac

Please share you wisdom so we know what the netbook killer apps are. What a fucking idiot. All you need is a browser, email client and iWorks to match or surpass a netbook piece of fucking shit. I am sure all you goo fans use your tabs for watching porn in the can so mommy doesn’t catch you.

Dude what the hell are you talking about. My point was that Android didnt really take hold until companies  started laying their own UIs over Android. Personally I hate it, but it polished some of the jagged edges in the early stages of the OS and I think that may be the case again with the tablets. Im not sure why the tangent about contracts and high end phones I guess it made sense in your head. Im just looking at the history of how the phones came along and making some inferences. As far as the killer app for honey comb, Im not really sure Android users are looking for the killer app. We actually enjoy the fact that our phones and tablets do more than just run apps.

It has hurt a lot actually. There are some 3 times as many android de ices but their developers earn 20% or less theen iOS developers. Markets are isn’t everything, or really even anything. Also keep in mind that 2 of the top 4 android manufacturers are losing mone…

Has anyone heard if and when Samsung will have the Tab 10.1 support Open GL?  So I can get google music on it?  Been waiting for the 4g and hoping it would support it.

    • Andrew

Hmm, I’m running the Google Music beta on my Galaxy Tab 10.1.  It seems to work just fine.

  • Anonymous

I downloaded mine 24 hrs ago, I’m really surprised how late this story is Bgr.

  • whereDIDuGETit

    which wallpaper is that?

What are other’s thoughts regarding the update?  I don’t mind updating, it’s just that most of the updates are applications/widgets that are already available.  I also read somewhere that you’ll have to install the TouchWiz in order to get Honeycomb 3.2…has anyone heard about this as well?

    • Mac

Touch wiz is retarded. I guess it is better than holding my cock while I piss. Did the goo fans know that after ice cream my self sandwich cums Jackoff?

Omg it’s got a weather widget. Question are all android user tornado or storm chasers. Why to they make a big deal about having weather and other widgets on there phones and tablets. I hope apple never ever puts them on the iPhone or iPad. First they are a battery drain. Every widget needs to refresh the more widgets the more refreshing the more battery drain. Example facebook, instant messaging, etc. Let not forget the live wallpaper which is useless. Two they clump up the home screen. Do I need to know what the weather is every minute? Three they cause other things to lag. These are among many reasons why I returned my android phone.

    • Anonymous

There is a weather widget in the iOS 5 notification center :)

      • Steve Hartsock

Only if you want it there.

What you described is exactly why I don’t use those Widgets. What is helpful is my power control widget that lets me toggle wifi, Bluetooth, etc without having to dive into settings every time. I also thoroughly enjoy my Pandora and music player Widgets. Soundhound is another one of my favorites, granted it only saves you one click, but that is helpful during a movie with a short sample of the song. Lastly I like having a calendar widget so I just glance and make sure I’m not missing any birthdays, because I could never remember to go in the app every couple of days.
Now of the Widgets I described to you the most any one refreshes would be once per day in the calendar.

This specific tablet has only 30 minute less battery life than the ipad 2.  You’re argument is now invalid.

    WHERE THE F**K IS ALLSHARE?

  • zps

it’s a shame.  i’d be all over this if it had an SDXC slot.  built in limited storage is not enough.

    • Penguin

You can attach a hard drive to the galaxy tab if you want.

      • zps

i don’t want to carry around a hard drive attached to it.  that defeats the whole point.

so the new touch wiz brings netflix to the galaxy tabs ??

I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

I love widgets on home screen but Honeycomb is one messy UI. It’s obviously designed towards the geeks. And Windows-like UI is definitely not cool.
