BlackBerry App World 3.0 beta now available

mobile

Research In Motion announced on Friday that BlackBerry App World 3.0 is now available for download from the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The updated app store offers a number of improvements, including the ability to search for applications directly from the new home screen. Users will be able to sort search results by name, price, rating, release date, best match and most popular. RIM also added quick access to “Games” and “Themes” subcategories directly on the new home screen. “Spotlight banners” will showcase hot new applications that RIM wants to highlight, too. Finally, users can choose to share new applications via Facebook, Twitter, BBM, SMS or email.Read

    why does everyone hate on BlackBerry. I would give up my iPhone 3Gs right now for a BlackBerry Bold 9900. Unlike the iPhone with all the apps (all it has going for it) BlackBerry has messaging (email, bbm, pin), battery life, and I’m sure they are going somewhere with App World 3.0 because they said that the android Player is coming to the QNX OS (Android Apps) so it only makes sense that when QNX gets on the smartphone it will have the same Android Market, that means it will have more apps than android (android market + Apps in App World = more apps than android market place alone)

      You’ll see QNX on a phone sometime in 2016 at the rate RIM is going. As far as messaging, I can text and email on my iPhone 4 just fine. Who really cares about BBM? It’s 2011, damn near 2012, there are a ton of cross-platform messaging apps that do everything BBM can do….

        you know whats nice about bbm? it comes standard on every bb and is integrated into the core OS so you can access it for sharing from almost any window/app/screen. yes your iphone can sms and email fine, but it also costs an arm and a leg to have an unlimited sms plan, whereas bbm is free, and your email isnt pushed to your phone, but rather it is pulled in intervals.

        as for cross platform messaging apps, yes there are plenty, but no, none of them have the functionality of bbm, and none of them come standard. you may find it simple to install one, then have all your contacts install the same app then get them to all use it over their sms app, but shockingly most people wont go through that hassle, especially if you’re dealing with someone from a previous generation. i can assure you my 53 year old father would have absolutely zero interest in figuring out a new cross platform messaging app. but you know what he can do? he can bbm me for free either directly or thru a group we share at work with our boss and other employees that keeps us all up to date, not to mention its security features and the fact that it by default tells me when my messages have been sent, delivered, and read.

        i know people like you think their iphone is the greatest and that somehow owning a ubiquitous handset that millions of others have all purchased somehow makes you better than BB users. but the truth is your iphone is crap for messaging, as is android and any touch screen phone, and this is where BB wins. yes they may just be a glorified pager with a web browser, but thats why they work. i can bust out a message on my bb in seconds and have it sent out while you  are swiping to unlock and opening up your sms app and struggling to type on a virtual keyboard.

        and before you say “i can type just fine on my iphone”, it doesnt matter because while you may have learned to adapt to it, the fact remains that you will always be able to type faster on physical keys, and the bb keyboard shortcuts many tasks much simpler to access than the cumbersome process of unlocking your device every time you need to respond to a message or complete any other task.

        BBM = iMessage
        Physical keyboard = Stay tuned.

        Mike please just go back to your office in waterloo and design better products and software. Take your time and do it right. Theres no need to troll bgr.

      • http://twitter.com/DariusOne organical

        for some reason i cant seem too reply to S. Jobs, so im replying to my comment.

        imessage will be direct competition to bbm, theres no doubt in my mind there, but without bbm, imessage would not be necessary.

        physical keyboard on an iphone? i doubt this, but would love to see one.

        before anyone goes screaming fanboy, for the record i own an iphone 2g, OG droid, and had the droid pro. all devices are awesome for applications when i want to play a game or show something off that i wont ever use again after the first few times, but all absolutely suck when it comes to using my phone to stay in contact with my girl and my boss and my coworkers, which is why i have always come back to my Bold 9650.

        so yes, my bb is outdated in respect to a large app store with a ton of games to bloat my device, but it is by far a much more capable and convenient messaging device which is why i need a phone at the end of the day. not so i can carry around my charger and show off my graphically intense battery sucking apps that i would rather have on my macbook than my cell phone.

        Indeed, I type this message on a ssgs2. it’s a good device but for typing? No! If it comes to typing a bb is much more superior. Bbm 6.0 is way more superior then imessage and 5 steps ahead of imessage. Bbm will ben a core focus because they wanted igor to make it more alike a social platform. Moreover, os 7 is powerfull and good enough for good apps. So, do not pretend as iphone is the king phone were android and the new bb°s are great devices. Before you say iphone then think twice why theyes are.coping android and blackberry

    A new app world means nothing with out apps. I own a torch and its pathetic how few quality apps there are. I have all my cool stuff on my android captivate.
