HTC to launch as many as eight new smartphones in Q3

mobile

HTC chief executive Peter Chou on Tuesday said that the Taiwan-based smartphone vendor is scheduled to launch between six and eight new smartphone models this quarter. HTC continues to report record quarter after record quarter, and the onslaught of new handsets it is preparing for the fall season will give the vendor a great shot to top the record 12.1 million smartphones it shipped in the second quarter. The popular smartphone maker currently expects to ship 13.5 million handsets in the September quarter, its CEO says. Chou also stated that all of the devices HTC launches in the third quarter will be middle or high-end models, which will likely help the average selling price of HTC phones back up after it slid 2.8% in the second quarter. Taiwan Economic News notes that HTC’s third-quarter earnings per share is now projected to reach NT$22, while full-year EPS is expected to fall between NT$82 and NT$85.

What can possibly vary so much that 8 new devices need to be made in one quarter?

I think I like what RIM does best – a few base models that are updated. Apple is a bit limited. Now, if only they (RIM) would make phones everyday consumers will actually want…

Conceivably 2 phones per carrier – 1 Android and 1 WinMo each.

Wish they’d ditch the Snapdragon processor though.

I agree 100%. That’s probably the one thing RIM has done well. Curve, Pearl, Bold and now Torch.

just the option of having a physical keyboard or not is potentially enough to double a smartphone’s manufacturer’s product line… and what superguy said, the possibility of Android or Windows on each. So, potentially, with an unlikely minimum of 2 devices per carrier… that’s a lot of phone models and all you have to do is design a few base models to base the rest off of.

I just paid $23.87 for an iPod 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/aRzu

Woah, Apple’s legal department better be ready to do something about this.

I definitely see myself getting a new HTC device in the coming months unless I’m swayed to go back to another BlackBerry.

My HTC Incredible has tolerated my abuse for more than a year now, and I’m convinced that they make solid products. Too bad about HTC Sense and that crappy battery life..

That crappy battery life is Android’s fault. Not HTCs

      • Anonymous

Sense isn’t helping, by any margin.

      • holierthanthou

The crappy battery life is the phone’s fault, not the OS. It depends on the skin (such as Sense) and the number of processes.
        Stupid iSheep. Don’t know iShit.

HTC would like to sell as phones as it can before it is shut out of NA shores..make hay while sun shines!

    fix the damn thunderbolt first…

Welcome to Android.  Where innovation comes first and suing comes later.

  • Dario999

And let me guess – they are all based on the HD2 chassis.  Seriously, HTC has lost its luster, I hate to say it because I have been a loyal customer since the iPAQ back in 2000.  HTC Diamond was the cat’s meow and the HTC Raphael (ATT Fuze, etc) was the ultimate candy bar slider.

While I still own the HD2 I have to say the form factor and style seems outdated but these HTC phones all seem to revolve around this same old design.  It is like HTC stopped innovating in 2009.  If anything Google should complain about HTC not innovating and worry more about their partners versus Apple.

It’s called spray and pray. What a shame. Add 8 more phones to that huge pile of crap in the android discount/reject bin. HTC will be dead in two years.  true story™©®

    • Bringit

Spray and pray – exactly.  Like cell phone diarrhea.

      • Anonymous

Yea, and too bad BGR doesn’t offer up some free iMmodium AD to alleviate all the pain and discomfort caused by all their diarrhetic Apple stories*

    • Anonymous

      haha….funny

    • Anonymous

      i got diarrhea flow…

    • Anonymous

You are aware that it’s 8 smartphones, which will be Android and WP7, and spread out between carriers? Seems like the only “spray and praying” going on is in your comments.

    • iSheep

Discount/reject bin? Pretty sure android owns almost 50% of the market share in the mobile world. You excited for the iPhone 5, sheep? It’s JUST like your iPhone 4. And 3G.
      GARBAGE.
      BUT WAIT!
THE iFail 6 will be out in January!

  • Docabdullah

You guys are all bunch of crack smoking morons. HTC in my openion makes the most solid phones out there. Premium feel with a good design. To those who say HTC hasn’t innovates since the HD2 what has Apple really done seriously? The 4.3 inch screen has taken off like hot cake. you people said the same veal when the first 4.3 came out and look how much tracksion it has gained. HTC’S UI is by far the best on android. Sseriously people stop hating. Give them credit when its due.

lol @ a premium feel. Plastic with a premium feel. Too funny. What has Apple done? Think slow and hard moron what have they have done.

      • Anonymous

Is that what iTrolls do now, associate “cheap” plastic with Android?! Funny, I dropped my Nexus S on concrete for the 1st time getting out the car the other day. Blown, but was amazed that the plastic casing was barely damaged at all. Small nick, but you have to put it close to your face and catch it with the light to even notice it. It’s quite durable actually, just like my Epic 4G was after 20+ drops – NO scratches.

But for HTC — If you’ve actually held one and not use fanboy skepticism — they actually use metal for some of their devices, and not always plastic, you inferiority-complex-having moron.

I had a evo for a week which I’m pretty sure is made by htc…sigh And it has a glass screen that was peeling off the phone and 100% brittle plastic. Nothing that is made of plastic has a premium feel. Even the iPhone 3G/3GS did not feel as ‘premium’ as the iPhone 2g and the iPhone 4. Maybe htc and others should work on making the 2nd gen phones of what they have now better better before releasing more crap. So much for your childish fanboy comment huh.

      • Poopyg

Drop my Nexus S then your iFail and we’ll see who has a better product.
        OH WAIT.
        YOU JUST GOT INSURANCE.
        Groundbreaking.

      • Anonymous

I’ve had insurance on my iPhone before android was a twinkle
In googles eyes buddy. And I’m not a dumb clumsy fuck like yourself ive had all four iPhones and haven’t dropped one once. Youre supposed to clean the lube off your hands after whacking it tardboy.

  • Banofbros

HTC needs to work with their venders and get the phones they have on the market NOW to work right before pushing out 8 new ones – The Thunderbolt STILL doesn’t do what it was promised 6 MONTHS AGO!!!

  • Anonymous

I’m pretty sure Microsoft is excited to hear this, Lmao. That’s $5 per device sold.

    • http://twitter.com/DGEck Dan Eckert

Right…doesn’t MS still make more cash off of Android then WM7?  I thought it was more like $15 a phone but I could be wrong..

      • getreal

        5-15 depends on device
