BlackBerry Bold 9900 hands-on!

mobile

We first saw the BlackBerry Bold 9900 during BlackBerry World earlier this year, but we figured we’d bring you a fresh new look since we’re up in Toronto checking out the release version. We’re loving the thin design just as much as the first time we saw it, and it’s definitely the most elegant BlackBerry Bold to date. The metal bezel gives it a premium feel that will be right at home in an executive’s hands — or a BlackBerry die-hard’s hands — and we also appreciate the extra power under the hood for moving around RIM’s new BlackBerry 7 operating system quickly and smoothly. AT&T said that it will carry the BlackBerry Bold 9900 beginning later this month, so ahead of our full review, be sure to check out our hands-on gallery below.

BGR….you have the photo gallery named “bold 9800″.  it’s the Bold 9900 we’re looking at (not the torch 9800)!

IS the 9900 coming to t mobile…What a great looking powerful business tool

    • Nicatrotamundo

I wouldn’t call it powerful. I’d call it adequate.

  • Applesucksfatties

AT&T is a bunch of dickweed assholes if they don’t release this phone until October/November.  Get it into the hands of your customers in August!!!

wow kid, go back to bed and never wake up

      • Applesucksfatties

hey dipshit…..go suck max’s moms dick.

I just paid $23.87 for an iPod 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/aRzu

No one wants to type on a physical keyboard. RIM will be dead in two years  true story™©®

    • S. Jobs

We’re building one FYI. Stay tuned.

      • Anonymous

        Won’t happen.

      • Yo, si yo!

apple will build a keyboard iphone. True story

      • http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/ BoyRetardedReport

Apple is the company who killed the physical keyboard the day Apple releases a phone with a physical keyboard will be the same day Scrotum hits puberty

Also scroat I do prefer a physical keyboard… know why? Because I have ‘FRIENDS’ who I ‘TEXT’ and ‘BBM’ regularly and a touchscreen phone won’t do it for me. See I made the words caps because I am sure you have never heard of them.

      • http://twitter.com/kaydpea chris moore

the only thing apple is killing is innovation, keep suing everyone apple, all the kids will play with you then

      • Applesucksfatties

hey..don’t pick on scroatlicker…he has plenty of friends.. er, he and max are special “friends”.  who am i kidding?  these dipshits couldn’t get laid if they were locked in the a room with a bunch of nymphos that hadn’t had sex in a month….and they both wore a bag over their heads.

    • Anonymous

Every thread related to RIM I read I always see two types of comments; first a person saying the bought an iPad for $5 somewhere, and second, Scrotum making an executive decision on behalf of humanity that nobody wants a physical keyboard.

        Ipad bit killed me.

        i love you <3

    • Applesucksfatties

great job of cut n pasting…

    • Fatty Bunter

People older than you (read: people aged 13 and up) do.

  • C B

wait, didn’t this phone come out already?? oh no, that’s right, the version that came out did not have a touch screen. so technically this is a whole new device.. seeing that you can now touch the screen.. though it’s the same exact phone.. with a new device number.. and the same operating system.. slightly tweeked… I got it.

    INNOVATION, WOO!

    • Kira Alexis

And totally overhauled internal specs, a much higher resolution display, etcetera. There’s more innovation in this phone than there are in plenty of generic slate devices from Apple and HTC.

      • Zac Caslin

        Keep dreaming.

    • playbook fan

there are over 300 new features……hahahahaaa

    • http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/ BoyRetardedReport

Wow yeah lets add a touch screen and not call it a whole new device with a new fast 1.2GHz CPU and lets just forget about the BBoS7 and the over 300 new features, yeah makes sense to do that!!!

    • Applesucksfatties

finally get cut n paste functionality and a native messaging app and then come talk to me about the innovation. crApple is the best for throwing a few more blinkie lights on their phones and then releasing the iLemmings….   Steve Jobs is the greatest sheepherder on the planet…BAAAH  BAAAAH!

    • Steve Jenkins

      graze on sheep, graze on…

I’ve been waiting for this phone since I prefer the wider keyboard versus the one on the torch… but I keep hearing that specs wise, the torch has a better camera… anyone know if thats true?

    • Anonymous

      nope, exact same camera

      • Guest

@greatness10:disqus 98×0 and 9900 do *not* have the same camera, although they are 5MP.

    • BlahBlah

This appears to be a bit more than adding cut’n'paste and call it version 5.0.

  • B Sinclair

    great, it’s phones from 2009…Yipeeee!!!!!

  • Get a Life Losers

I wish I could screw my iPhone

reminds me of my Bold 9000 I had back in 2008

    • Applesucksfatties

yeah, with twice the processor speed, way more memory, a touch screen, a track pad, and a better OS…..should I go on or do you get the point?

    • Todd

Yeah.  Kind of like how the iPhone5 will remind me of the iPhone1, iPhone2, iPhone3, iPhone4….

  • http://twitter.com/King_Of_Caps Jason

Takes RIM waaaaaay too long to get phones out. With the designs staying the same and no new MAJOR updates to the OS you’d think they’d be releasing phones quick – WRONG!!!

    • Tony

It took Apple a year to figure out how to paint the iPhone 4 white.

      • QNX Please

        bazinga!

  • Jamie Ivy

RIM are you crazy, how will you ever top this?
Wait a minute, new phones, kiosks with coffee.
I smell a chain of coffeehouses.
    Sneaky, Sneaky.
    Black please.

This thing better offer some phenomenal battery life because I doubt that the web browser and other applications will stand up to what is offered on Android and the iOS devices right now. They need something…anything to set their “new” line of smartphones apart.

The browser stacks up nicely against anything else on the market. Check Youtube for more details.

  • Joey Joe Joe

This thing looks fucking sexy. Too bad it didn’t come sooner, I might’ve gotten this one from work instead of the current Bold :(

I honestly think many of you are missing the point and closed minded.  I used BB for a year.  I currently have an iPhone 4, and I miss my BB keyboard.  I miss my BBM.  And I am honestly serious thinking of going back to the BB.

Reasons.  I use my phone to stay connected.  I use it for status updates, eMails and other ways of Messaging.  And the keyboard and BB makes that simple and direct.

The touchscreen keyboards do not lend themselves to typing long messages or at least I find I make many mistakes on the iPhone, my old Android device and my Nokia N8.

So do not think iPhone is perfect that is only a delusion.  iPhone is great for Apps, games and web browsing.  But Messaging is a bit out dated in my opinion.  Same with Android and Nokia.

But Nokia has the best hardware, my Nokia phones work almost any place in the world.  When my iPhone or Android phone shows no service my Nokia will have full capabilities.  And Nokia’s camera is top notch do not need to care a point and shoot when using my N8.

So iPhone is good for some one that just sets around playing games and surfing the web.

But that is my opinion.  And I have been using them all

    • http://twitter.com/andreharry Andre Harry

      I agree with you.

This OS7 looks promising. Snappy responsive UI, much better hardware specs, social BBM API, global launch Hopefully this will keep them in the game. QNX OS will be the game changing one!

    • Steve Jenkins

Jean, be careful, your non-biased, intellectual explanation, may rip a portal in time and space as we know it…

I will take 2 on launch day from Verizon please.  Have a nice day!

  • twm

Wait….I thought this was being launched later this year….not later this month. Didn’t AT&T announce that the Torch 9810 would be available later this month and the 9900 and the 9860 later this year (see below). You just said that AT&T said it would have it later this month. So what’s accurate?

    Key Facts

    · AT&T* today outlined plans for its future portfolio of 4G BlackBerry smartphones including the exclusive 4G BlackBerry® Torch™ 9810, planned to be launched in August.

    · Also planned for 2011, AT&T customers will have the opportunity to select the 4G BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 and the 4G, all-touch, BlackBerry® Torch™ 9860.

    Who gives a shit

Evidently you do. How sad and pathetic is your life that you can’t find anything better to do? Honestly not even trying to flame you or be in heated interwebz fight with you. I just can’t help but wonder why people like you actually waste precious moments of their lives bitching about something they don’t like.

I don’t like knitting so I don’t waste my time talking about it. You don’t like RIM so you spend a very large amount of your time talking about it. IT makes no sense. Find a hobby, go outside, play a sport do something better with your life than troll.

    • Steve Jenkins

Max, your late for your lobotomy…

Did anyone else notice that BGR didn’t say a single negative thing about any 3 of the devices that they handled? I know it wasn’t a full review, but usually they take any chance they get to rip BlackBerrys a new one. If BGR didn’t take the opportunity to write something negative about a company’s products that they love to malign, I think it’s a pretty telling sign that these are some solid devices.

    • QNX Please

Or they weren’t reviewed by Geller.
