AT&T to offer 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810 in August, Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 to follow

mobile

AT&T announced early Wednesday morning that it will offer three new BlackBerry smartphones this year. It will first launch the 4G HSPA+ capable BlackBerry Torch 9810 in August. AT&T promises to then launch the 4G BlackBerry Bold 9900 later this year, as well as the full-touchscreen BlackBerry Torch 9860. The BlackBerry Torch 9810 packs a 1.2GHz processor, a dual-microphone, a 640 x 480-pixel display, 8GB of storage, 768MB of RAM, HSPA+ support, a digital compass and a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD video. It’s unclear at this point what pricing will be unfortunately, and AT&T didn’t provide branded images or a complete spec list for either of the other two BlackBerry devices it announced. Thankfully, we’ve already shown you exclusive leaked images of the Torch 9860 and we published a hands-on look at the Bold 9900 back in May. We also have a feeling we’ll be getting up-close and personal with these new devices again very soon. In the meantime, read on for AT&T’s full press release.

A crappy web browsee with 4G speeds and the blackberry middle man still in between. Is 4G really going to make a difference here? Probably just there for marketing purposes,

    • Steve Jenkins

So you’ve used the OS7 browser?

Doubtful… but like most others, he is willing to share his OPINION on what he thinks it CAN’T do.

What the 9800 should have been — looks much, but it won’t even sell half as many as the Bold 9900.  I can see RIM selling a lot of those 9900s, actually.  Its form factor is probably alternative to all the landscape keyboards and glass tap phones out there.

AT&T actually explains the definition of 4G on their website as “HSPA+ with LTE coming starting this summer.”

      • Ilikeskittles

HSPA+ booooo really if you put a new engine in an old car is it considered a new car NO!! Then why does at&t call it a 4th generation network when all HSPA+ is a revamped 3g network.

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad 2 (64 GB) and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

If you are waiting for the Blackberry Bold 9900 on AT&T, don’t hold your breath. I received this response from them today  9/3/2011 — note the use of the word “if”:
“My name is Ken Reid, and I will be more than happy to assist you with your inquiry regarding the Blackberry Bold 9900 release. I appreciate your concern about this issue and I will work diligently to promptly assist you. At this time we have no information on when or if the Blackberry Bold 9900 will be released from AT&T. We offer the most Smartphones of any carrier and are rated #1 in customer satisfaction for Smartphone users.”

I was told by an AT&T dealer that they have to wait 30 days from when it was released by Verizon.

I’m beginning to wonder about the Blackberry 9860.  Verizon, Sprint and Best Buy already have it on the market as the 9850; but, I have yet to see a single commercial from any of those folks about the new Blackberry device.  They must not think too highly of the phone or they would be advertising the device.
