Apple to combine OS X and iOS in 2012, analyst says

mobile

Apple will begin to merge its OS X and iOS operating systems in 2012 according to predictions made by Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek.”We believe Apple is looking to merge iOS (iPhones/iPads) with OS X (Macs) into a single platform for apps and cloud services starting in 2012-13,” Misek said. He believes that the A6 processor is “capable of PC-like strength,” and that Apple will implement it into its iPad 3 during the first quarter of 2012, into the iPhone 5 next summer, and into the MacBook Air in 2012 or 2013. “Users want to be able to pick up any iPhone, iPad, or Mac (or turn on their iTV) and have content move seamlessly between them and be optimized for the user and the device currently being used,” Misek said. “We believe this will be difficult to implement if iOS and OS X are kept separate.” There have been rumors that Apple has considered building its own TV, which Misek refers to as the “iTV,” although that has been pure speculation.

I don’t think that will happen…..you might see more integration of iOS elements within OSX but a complete merge would probably piss folks off.

Anybody that doesn’t see a Mac OS X and iOS merger coming is blind. LaunchPad, “natural” scrolling, the horrible looking Calendar and Address Book apps, the window panes in Mail. Old people will finally be able to use computers like regular folk.

Analysts are the worst !    No way a Macbook with an ARM chip (even one of the quad-core 2.5GHz Krait Qualcomm Snapdragons) will ever outperform an Ivy Bridge (or the follow on Haswell) Core i5 — not going to happen.  Also with the process shrinks to 22nm, then 14nm, then 10nm (or is it 7nm?),  power consumption will continue to decline. Yes, ARM will have process shrinks to, but ARMs wont outperform Intel on MacOS

if anyone wants to write a book about the decline of apple, start it off with the release of final cut x, lion, then this.

I remember when the iPhone first launched.  Steve Jobs specifically said, “It runs OS X!”  Talk about hype!
