Samsung comments on Apple's patent suit that blocked Galaxy Tab 10.1 sales down under

Legal

As a result of a recent patent complaint filed in Australia by Apple, Samsung has agreed not to sell its Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb tablet in the region. The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but we had a feeling that wouldn’t be the last we would hear on the subject. On Tuesday, Australian Android news site Ausdroid got Samsung’s statement on the matter and as expected, the South Korea-based company says its 10-inch tablet will soon see the light of day down under. “A Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 for the Australian market will be released in the near future,” a Samsung Australia spokesperson said in the statement. The spokesperson continued, “This undertaking does not affect any other Samsung smartphone or tablet available in the Australian market or other countries. Samsung will continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communication business.” Samsung Australia’s full comment on the matter follows below.

Apple Inc. filed a complaint with the Federal Court of Australia involving a Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 variant that Samsung Electronics had no plans of selling in Australia. No injunction was issued by the court and the parties in the case reached a mutual agreement which stipulates that the variant in question will not be sold in Australia.

A Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 for the Australian market will be released in the near future.

This undertaking does not affect any other Samsung smartphone or tablet available in the Australian market or other countries.

Samsung will continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communication business.

This shit is getting out of hand.

Agreed!  Out of hand!  This smack is crrraaaazzzyyy!

You are by the way talking about how people flood into any thread that has Apple in it to complain about too many threads that have Apple in it – yet those same people stay away from all non-Apple threads en masse.

      Out.  of.  hand.

I want to know what variant it is? Maybe one with a thunderbolt port or retina display.

      • Anonymous

or maybe one that was a different color?

Put another way, they didn’t actually say anything at all.

So let me get this straight. What Samsung is going to do is sell a variant of Galaxy Tab that doesn’t have all the IP theft the American version has and they’re trying to pass it off as ‘defending their IP’?

    You gotta love PR speak.

If it has Apple in the title Zach will post it!

Apple prevented Samsung from selling a product that Samsung claims it was not going to sell in that country in the first place. Samsung will sell a product in Australia that is extremely similar to the one Apple prevented them from offering there but since it is a different product it is not being blocked.

Was the original story about the device being blocked fully researched? Are the stories about Samsung not having to avoid the product in Australia a major change on Samsung’s part or their original intention? Did Apple actually block anything? Was this all just about getting readers to click on stories?

” Was this all just about getting readers to click on stories?”

      Yup. And guess what? Gotcha!

I’m surprised Apple hasn’t patented the rectangle, and then sued everyone for using it.

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2 (64GB) and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com
