Nokia may unveil first Windows Phone this month

mobile

Nokia may be planning to unveil its first Windows Phone later this month, the unwired reports. The site claims to have obtained an invitation to a party hosted by both Nokia and Microsoft. Scheduled to take place on August 17th during the annual GamesCom trade show in Cologne, Germany, the event will apparently include a raffle of three Xbox 360 consoles and three Windows Phones built by Nokia. The invitation does note that the aforementioned Windows Phones will be delivered to winners “as soon as available,” so we’re not entirely convinced the event will follow any sort of announcement. And the choice of venue for such an announcement is at the very least curious, if not illogical. We know that Nokia won’t be pushing out flagship devices from day one, but why announce the first Nokia-built Windows Phone at a trade show for games? Then again, the event invitation does mention “exciting actions and surprises” that “will make it an evening to remember” — and we’re pretty sure no other cell phones will be announced at GamesCom so it wouldn’t have to share the spotlight. Our advice, however, is to not hold your breath. Nokia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

i find it kind of weird that Nokia are betting the house on Windows Phone 7 to save the company.
It hasn’t broken any sales records so far……..

Or they could just move to Android and lose money like Motorola has.

It will sell like the rest of the WP7 devices: not at all.

This one’s gonna be a dud. RIP Nokia.

make some dual sim smartphones and they will get tons of sales… i mean tons!
nokia+dual sim+smartphone+available on normal western markets would crush all other smartphones instantly!
yes, probably easier even if it was android, but people would buy it anyway, in an instant, and tons of people.

They NEED to focus on business users. Now. If they don’t this OS may not have a chance.

The are, the Tango release will have enterprise features / updates.  Right now wp7 comes with Microsoft Office and Mango will add even more features with skydrive saving and editing files instantly.

I’m sure it will do fine.  It’s not going to run DROID OS which is garbage

Oh for goodness sake… stop this silliness…

Why would Nokia make such a hugely important announcement at a party in Cologne and not at Nokia World?

The average consumer does not watch “Tech Events” like these. So it is actually very smart on Nokia’s and Microsoft’s part to unveil at an event that will be watched by a larger demographic, and where you do not have to share the spotlight with another device.

Consumers won’t pay attention to either event, but only Nokia World will be stuffed full of consumer tech press, devices and senior Nokia staff to interview.

Who on earth could believe that a key part of a firm’s multi-billion dollar strategic change would be launched at a trade-show party offering ‘free food’ and the opportunity to win ’3 XBoxes’.

Everyone knows that it is Android and Ios for all. But Nokia seems to dropeverything. What if Wp7 continues to flop, which I believe.Goodnight Nokia
