Hulu mulls ad-free option in addition to standard, Plus plans

Services

Hulu has confirmed that it is considering a third subscription option that would allow users to stream ad-free TV shows and movies for a higher monthly fee. “We’re currently an ad supported service but are looking into the option of a higher priced ad-free option,” a Hulu representative stated from an official Twitter account. Hulu made several additional comments to the same effect on Friday from its customer support Twitter account. The move would be an interesting one; Hulu dropped the price of its Hulu Plus premium subscription service to $7.99 last November, presumably due at least in part to slower than expected consumer adoption. A new pricier plan in spite of the recent price drop, that could also potentially anger network partners, is a tough pill to swallow —especially as the company looks for a buyer.

As long as this is in addition to what they already offer, I’m okay with this. Depending on how much it is exactly, I might even be willing to switch.

I would like to be able to watch all the content from Hulu Plus on my TV. None of that “web only” crap.

      Get Cable then…lol

We re-purposed an old PC 2-3 years ago when we cut the cable, and connected it to our HDTV by adding a new big hard drive and a cheap graphics card.  Works great.  The downside is having to use a mouse and keyboard.

We have owned several of the wireless keyboards with built in touchpads, but they keep getting drinks spilled on them and destroyed.  For the time being we have a cheap wired keyboard and regular mouse, and you have to physically walk over to “change the channel” or pick another movie.  No biggie for us, but ymmv.  Hoping to try out one of the new remotes with built in keyboard similar to a phone.

lmfao . . . whatever… I saw this coming a mile away. “Oh we know you already pay and we still show the same damn ads…. want to get rid of those ADS? PAY MORE” . . . If you really look at it Hulu Plus subscribers are only really paying to have HULU on the go/Other devices . . . same damn ADs. Paying for something that’s already free MINUS the “Web Only” shows… its so f’ed up

Makes sense, they should have free with ads, or paid with no ads.  Paying and seeing ads is a heartache (and something I would never pay for).  Now if they just had more movies!

Consumers should also be able to watch the “free with ads” hulu on any device.

when this is the same pricepoint as netflix (with no ads) it might almost be worth it. until then i’ll continue to exercise patience.

Ads suck ballz.  I hate ads with a passion…unless they’re ads with nekkid girls.

So users have to pay to watch the content online and pay extra if they don’t want to to be inconvenienced with annoying commercials? Sounds like this is definitely going to help rightholders’ piracy problems.

    Not.

I’ve had Netflix for a long time and recently got a free sub to Hulu Plus, I was shocked how crap it is for the same price. Paying for the sub and having adds is something I will never do especially when it’s only good for watching old TV shows, their movie collection is a joke.

The reason your adoption was so shit was because you mad people pay and you forced them to watch ads.

Hulu Plus should’ve been ad-free, with new episodes of shows available the day after they aired on TV. Ideally, they’d be available the same day, but the companies running movies, music and TV are far too stupid to realize the intelligence of this, which is why they’re leaving so much money on the table.

The only thing keeping me with FiOS TV is sports.

Hulu needs to get an Android app for everyone first before mulling this shit!

So they want me to pay even more for ad free? The $7.99 should be ad free not just give me the ability to watch on TV.

Netflix’s streaming option costs the same and is commercial-free. Get your shit together, Hulu, or I’m canceling my Plus account.

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2 (64GB) and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.com

A 100% ad free plan would be more attractive than their current service.  But I also require unimpeded access to their service from the device of my choice.  That means no proprietary clients.  And I have zero interest in paying for content that I can watch on the broadcast channels over the air.  Same goes for ~85% of the cable channels.

So in summary allow me to buy access to my choice programming.  Then give me that access with no limitations.
