Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S II with 4G WiMAX passes through FCC

mobile

Yesterday we brought you exclusive images of AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II slider and today we’re getting some info surrounding Sprint’s version of the phone. The Samsung SPH-D710 Galaxy S II recently passed through the FCC complete with a 4G WiMAX radio, which suggests that we could be hearing an announcement from Sprint in the coming weeks. Earlier leaks suggested that the carrier will call it the “Galaxy Within,” although that name still is not confirmed. We’re expecting the phone to pack the same internals as the European Galaxy S II, which means it should be equipped with a dual-core processor, plenty of on board memory, a brand new TouchWiz user interface, and of course Samsung’s stunning Super AMOLED Plus display. Whiney little bitch says what? Adults are talking here (well mostly). If you are offended you should go get an iphone from papa jobs and live in the safe walled garden.

Lame. lol. What the hell are you talking about? iPhone users have the worst mouths of all! They all go licking Apple’s bum-hole. lol.

I wonder if it will have GSM radio in addition to CDMA.

    • Anonymous

      Sprint isn’t a GSM network…

      • Jojo120

And yet they carry a few “world” phones, with GSM radio. The last one to join the fray is Moto Photon (coming out tomorrow) and it has GSM radio.

Not sure, though, if the GSII is also “world” phone.

is it got the us bands or only the eu bands ? there world phone before the bb8830 i think only had eu gsm so it wouldnt work here in the us

I won’t be getting this.  I was set on it for months.  But after reading that my EVO4G has already reached End of Life status for Sprint, F that.  I’ve only had the EVO for twelve months and can’t believe they would consider no longer updating it.  Android phones just turn over way too quickly.  More so than any other platform.

I’ll jump to the iPhone for Sprint when its announced this fall.  At least their phones receive the latest updates and are supported for two years.

Same here. Going from EVO 4G straight to iPhone 5.

Agree with both of you. I’ve tried most smartphones except for the Pre (did try to find one cheap on CL after my BB Tour though) and I’ve got to say what convinced me the iPhone was for me was after getting my daughter one and buying an iPod touch 4th gen. Will miss my EVO, the best android for a while and still a great phone. Won’t leave Sprint to get the iPhone though so my fingers are crossed.

Having the Evo 4G I’m a bit puzzled – why did you say the phone reached the end of his life? I guess I need to come out from under the rock more often…    :-(

Sprint allows annual upgrades to new phones at reduced price whereas as other carriers are two years.  But is the EVO 4G EOL for sales or for support as well?

      • Anonymous

        I assume both.

I think the end of life thing for the EVO4G is that Sprint will stop selling the phone at their stores to make room for new phones – not that the phone will not longer receive any support.

It was in Google’s agreement with it OEMs to support devices for 18 months. The Evo was released in June 2010.

      • Anonymous

That agreement came after the Evo did, though.

  • BurleyShells

i dont get why carriers have to mess with the hardware or names of phones. just release as-is

      You forgot bloatware?

      Differentiation and obfuscation.

Will the Sprint version have the slide out keyboard or no?

    • Anonymous

I hope so, I’m still in love with my Epic 4g

      • Bluedrummer27

I hope NOT… slide out keyboards are unattractive and add unnecessary bulk. Not saying they’re bad, but most peope opt for the on screen keyboard.

      • Anonymous

The bulk is necessary if they keyboard is going to slide out. Attractiveness is subjective. And some people like being able to type while having all of the space on the screen available to them.

Not to rag on people for choosing one or the other; my last three phones have had keyboards and I’m thinking about picking up the SGS II with (please, Cthulhu, please) LTE when it comes out for VZW.

    • Jes

      No.

Looks like AT&T got the version with the keyboard this time around.

  • http://twitter.com/jimmiekain Jimmie

Does it support the 800mhz smr band?

    • Xavier Carryl

Si…i think(according to test docs, the bands are there).

Wow, by the time this thing gets to the US, we might have a stable CM7 port for it!

Question! I have the SGS2 now, the Euro version. WHERE is the antenna located NOW!? Wifi / GPS / Cell? Sometimes when I’m in the underground I get 1-2 bar, I don’t know where to hold it to not cover the reception. Lol. Any ideas people? Thx!

Doesn’t Europe have an equivalent to the FCC? Look at their pictures… I imagine it would show you.
