Samsung: 5 million Galaxy S II handsets shipped in 85 days

mobile

Samsung announced on Wednesday that it has now shipped more than 5 million flagship Galaxy S II smartphones in just 85 days. The phone became Samsung’s fastest selling smartphone when it hit the 3 million-unit milestone in just 55 days. Samsung now reportedly maintains a 56% share of the mobile phone market in South Korea. The phone maker has yet to launch the device in the United States, but our recent exclusive leak of AT&T’s Galaxy S II handset suggests that official carrier announcements could be right around the corner.

In these comments: Another asinine flamewar. I truly, truly wish someone at BGR was interested in moderating down here.

    Shipped != sold

But cool, anyway. I love the S2 ;)
I hope the slider version comes to Brazil soon, so I can upgrade my original SGS.

Why can’t I just have it now. This is ridiculous. Here we are, loyal consumers, eagerly awaiting their product – and they just remain tight lipped over the whole thing, save for a quick little blurb from last week. Insane.

Because the hold up is money, like always.  The suits from both companies are arguing over money .

Wowzorz! Come to VZW so I don’t have to buy a BIONIC!

    Compare That to 17 iPhones.

    • http://twitter.com/jbernard703 Jeff Bernard

You mean compare that to 20 million iPhones

      • Rudy

The thought of the iPhone is much different in South Korea.  Just as the thought of the Galaxy S II will be interesting to see what sales are like in the US.

Samsung = S Korean, Apple = US, there is a bit of nationalistic pride in owning a phone behind it no doubt

a single android phone will never put up the numbers of an iphone because there are too many android phones to choose from

    Shipped, eh?

      Apple fanboy, eh?

Shipped does not = sold, but nice diversion attempt.

      • Drew

Just about as foretelling as the constant BGR articles of some clown
giving his opinion of how many iPhones WILL be sold this Qtr, sight
        unseen…

I am praying and praying please let at&t release 2 models of GS2 one with and without keyboard so that I can get the one without…. its retarded having a keyboard on this phone…

    • Shadow

Most other blogs and news sites are saying they will and that the keyboard version is the pro version.  I still dont see anywhere in the pictures that proves that the slider was even with AT&T no logo or anything that had their brand on it.

I am pretty sure there will be 2 versions but if there isnt it will end up being how much the thing weighs compared to the new HTC phone.

      • Steve Lee

Right. Im hoping the ugly keyboard one is not attain.

All the sources say this is sold not shipped. Shipped is much less significant. Which is it?

    • Anonymous

They SOLD 3 million. SHIPPED 5 million.

  • Anonymous

That is pretty impressive given the few markets it is available in.

  • Hyphy3man

So how many of those 5 million were sold?

  • Anonymous

    add me 5million and 1

      5,000,002

I’d be interested if the screen resolution wasn’t outdated.

    • Hty2122

Your MOTHER is outdated you faggot.  The GS II screen is NOT. LOSER !!!

      • Zac Caslin

Yeah it its.  800+480 on a 4.3 inch phone is crap compared to other screens out there.

      • Anonymous

Does it really matter unless you’re 1 inch from the screen? Besides, the Super Amoled + screen RAPES (figuratively of course) all other screens on mobile phones.

      • Anonymous

Not when its a super amoled display

yet for some reason, US carriers have been postponing it’s release so long it will lose its relevance.  This seems to be the case on many occasions.

  • Shadow

I still dont think that phone is truly the only AT&T Galaxy s2 that is coming to the carrier.  Mostly because all info about the Attain device has said its a non slider and then all of a sudden an unknown unnamed slider shows up with no AT&T branding on it to prove its AT&T.  Its all up in the air still and I think AT&T will release both versions.  Especially since most other blogs are saying that this is a Pro version of the S2 and that Verizon is also getting this version as well.

  • Bringit

    Key word: “shipped”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/draymis David Ray

Yeah, why do blogs keep slurping the kool-aide when companies breathlessly exhort how many they’ve ‘shipped’.

Any article should have a disclaimer: Shipped has no reflection on how many are sold to real consumers.

I am so tired of waiting for this phone.  It has been so long since it was announced and still no US love.
