Apple rumored to be working on ultra-thin 15-inch notebook PC

Apple is in the late stages of testing a new ultra-thin 15-inch notebook computer that may or may not be an upcoming new addition to the MacBook Air family. MacRumors on Tuesday reports that the new ultra-thin laptop could either be a MacBook Air, which is currently offered in 11 and 13-inch sizes, or a MacBook Pro, which is currently offered in 13, 15 and 17-inch sizes. No pricing or release timing is being reported at this point, though a launch in the near term is unlikely. Apple refreshed its MacBook Pro lineup this past February and new MacBookAir models launched just this past week.

      Probably a laptop more expensive then a pro, but with less features and (at best) with last generation’s hardware inside, and an OS to which you’ll have to scroll up to view the bottom of a webpage.

    Not sure why this is unlikely in the near term…the original 17″ MBP was announced about 3 months after the MBP line was refreshed in 2006.

    This would be awesome. Drop the SuperDrive, keep the Ethernet port, add battery life and taper the front. Done!

    If they decrease the bezel size and bump the resolution it would be nice but not a deal breaker.

    I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.     Mac computer sales have been a shrinking slice of Apple’s revenue and profit for a long time.  You’ll see a 15″ Macbook Air, and the Macbook Pro line will disappear.  You’ll have the Mini dropped in a year or two as well, so you’ll be left with “iOS-like” devices: the iMac, the Macbook Air, the iPad, iPhone, and iPods.

    hopefully, windows OEM’s are going to follow this initiative. i’ve been waiting for a thin 15” laptop forever. why would asus make ux21 in only one size, beats me. they could have had a true bestseller with that one.
