Final Windows Phone Mango build released to manufacturers and carriers [updated]

mobile

Microsoft’s final build of Windows Phone Mango has been rubber stamped and released to manufacturers and wireless carriers according to Windows Phone Dev Podcast. The move is among the final steps before Microsoft delivers the Mango release to customers. The most recent reports have suggested that Microsoft will update current Windows Phone devices in September, although winrumors says the update could be pushed out as soon as August. Microsoft’s Windows Phone partners include HTC, LG, Samsung, Dell, Acer, Fujitsu, ZTE Corporation and Nokia, and we should see a number of new devices from those companies in the fall time frame. Mango was officially announced in May and Microsoft has promised that it will deliver more than 500 new features to the platform.

UPDATE: Microsoft’s Senior Director of Communications Bill Cox has stated that Windows Phone 7.5 Mango has not yet reached RTM, as Windows Phone Dev Podcast reported.

looks like one mango in a bowl of lemons.   Is that some sort of prescient statement to the quality of WP7 phones that will be deployed with Mango?

September?   If they don’t release before iOS 5, and the new iPhones, this will absolutely be a fizzle release.

Yeah dont let BGR’s ability to find a stock photo of Mangoes lead you to assume any thing.

Will fizzle based on what? Im sure there will people who jump ship from iOS to Windows Phone but that being said most of the people who buy iPhone 5 will be people whp already have iPhones so it doesn’t hurt the market of Windows Phone at all.

Hopefully it’s a success…they should really allow the option for flash in browser. I would give it a shot if it did offer that.

  • Dude

My Windows Phone has been asking me for a Mango for a couple of months now.

    Eh.

My problem with WP7 is how Microsoft is playing toadie to the carriers by getting their aproval.

I thought the whole point of an non-moddifyable OS and a walled garden approach was that it could be released directly to consumers, like Apple does with iOS.

This is probably why WP7 doesn’t include tethering or Skype video chat; carriers probably nixed it.  I don’t see why MS should cow tow to the carriers; they aren’t doing Windows Phone devices any favors in the carrier stores.

I’m no huge Apple fan, but I prefer their ‘F*** the carriers’ approach.

I’m running mango…although i’m getting the N9..i’m still going to use WP7. This is one underrated OS..we all have preference..but some people are dismissing it without even using it..use it for at least one week..your mind will change about it being a POS.. Peace,Love and Tech.
