Microsoft shows off Windows Phone Mango People Hub [video]

mobile

Microsoft has released a new video that shows off several of the People Hub enhancements in Windows Phone Mango. The video walks viewers through a new notification Live Tile system for contacts that can be pinned to the homescreen. After a contact has been pinned, the Live Tile will quickly alert you of a new email, message, Twitter or Facebook status, missed calls, and more. If you tap into the card, Windows Phone Mango will show you an entire history of the conversations you’ve had with that person. We’re loving what we see so far and can’t wait for the release. A recent leak has suggested we can expect it, along with new devices, in September. Hit the jump for the video.

I like the people centric approach of Windows Phone, These mini interviews with people that show off different parts of the OS really give off a human quality to Microsoft. Yes you may not use Windows Phone as your phone but you have to admit that it is a compelling and unique experience all its own.

        I appreciate your opinion ddpacino

No problemo. I loved all the synergy in webOS, among other things. They
didn’t have a hub like this, but it’s taken that up about 10 notches here.
Some Android ROMs have it as well, but just calls and texts; no emails (to
my knowledge). +1 for the Team Redmond, quite useful, and they me why I’d
        need it.

Sounds like you’re tired. You know if you had Mango on your phone, you could use local Scout to see what’s around you so you could get a room for the night and get the rest you so badly need.

This is such an Odd comment board. If this were about blackberry it would be pure hate mail, if it were apple it would be pure hipster love. This comment thread seems like a mix of Microsoft PR talking to a half a sleep yet mellow audience.

IMHO, this phone OS looks like shit. I love Windows (desktop) but the tiles are probably the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen in an electronics device. It might be an interesting idea but they shouldn’t have got the Engineers to build as well as design the damn thing. I’ll wait and see how Windows 8 (phone) turns out.

Well obviously the whole design principal just flew right over you head then.  Metro is whats called “Authentically digital” There aren’t faux drop or shades or attempts to mimic real world object. Everything is flat and is bathed in Typography.

You know the titles are more than just huge squares and rectangles on the start screen. If you cant figure that out then I dont know what to say to you

Mango looks cool.  This video shows EVERYTHING that’s wrong with Microsoft’s marketing though.  From the spokesperson the cheesy effects and music its everything people don’t want to be associated with.  Marketing should be appealing.  It should turn draw people in.  That video doesn’t do any of those things.

There is more to it than that. Much more. You can’t see it because you’re stuck at the desktop. This gives you point of reference for which you can relate.

Already have this on my wp7 with mango beta (not a developer phone). I was very surprised to see this when i first upgraded to mango. I have a family folder on my home screen and it notified me that there was an email from my family member. Very useful feature. I don’t really go to outlook on my phone because most of the emails aren’t important, but this told made my family tile say that i got an email from family.

It’s shit like this Microsoft, that makes me want to support you and your platform.

The guy talking with the plain white background seems like an Apple thing to me.

There’s something weird with that picture.
I can see a lemon, an orange and an avocado.. I don’t see any mango

    • Anonymous

That “Avocado” is a Mango.  In fact there are two of them.

They are all mangos except for the one lemon/lime on the left.

While I realize that Apple copies everything, I just want to say that this little interview video mirrors what Apple has been doing for 5 or 6 years to market their products.

Ps I own a Blackberry so not a fanboi.
