Apple updates MacBook Airs, and Mac minis, brings big cat Lion from Safari

Software

It wasn’t exactly a secret, but now the proverbial big cat is out of the bag. Apple has just updated the company’s best-selling computer product, the MacBook Air with a Core i5/i7 option, better storage, Thunderbolt port, and finally, a backlit keyboard (again). Mac minis are updated as well, at long last bringing them up to speed with current processors and features.

The other big story is obviously OS X Lion which is Apple’s most iOS-like release yet, and it slowly starts to bridge PC and post-PC devices. Lion is a major OS update with more than 250 new features, and it’s available for $29 through the Mac App Store starting now.

    Slick.

    These are definitely Sandy Bridge?

    • Anonymous

There seems to be some confusion around that with the MBAs right now.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, BidsOut. com

Been Waiting On The Mac Mini…Bout Time!

    There’s only 4 words to describe this…

    overrated pieces of shit.

    • Anonymous

Absolutely!  You and I can build something better in your mom’s garage.  They even look ugly.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

They look nice, actually… that’s all it has tho.  It’s like buying a Mitsubishi 3000GT… All show, no go.

If Lion actually fixes all the problems they introduced upon themselves with Snow Leopard… maybe I’ll amend my statement.  But until I get a copy, they’ll still suck.

      • http://twitter.com/kamalopsu Kamal

HAHAHA I think the kids won’t know what a 3000GT is!!!

      • Steve Jerbs

        11″ MBA with a Core i7?  I think that hauls ass like a 1988 Mustang GT 5.0L

      • Zac Caslin

The fact that you are reverencing a Mitsubishi 3000GT to a mac shows you are off you rocker. Nice try though.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Not if it has Snow Leopard dragging it down… pinwheels were cool and all when I was 3… but not when I’m trying to get work done and earn my damn paycheck.  Snow Leopard has been like towing a 5th wheel camper with your Mustang… it just doesn’t work.

      • Anonymous

Hey Bullet remember when Chrysler sold the 3000GT as The Dodge Stealth the car still sucked Lol…..

      • http://twitter.com/cdoruff Collin Doruff

I plan on building my own computer this year. Who cares what it looks like? its going to be way cheeper than a mac. I guess I could always spray paint it sliver when I’m done.

      • Anonymous

Absolutely!  If you can’t build one cheaper than a Mac you have a problem.  I plan to do the same thing with a car.  Because I don’t believe in paying the price for a BMW, I will build one and I guarantee you, like you have said here, that it will be much much cheaper than that 7 Series BMW I crave!  You sire, are a genius and part of what makes me proud to be a Goofan (aka Apple Hater!)

      • Mac

cheeper?  You building a PC or a bird?  Fool, it is spelled cheaper.  Just another stupid goofan!

      • Mac

The only thing you build in your mom’s garage is a hard on from sniffing her bloody undies.

    • Karen

ha ha ha typical unimaginative MS-DOS (micro soft-dumb operating system) user.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. go play with your dip switches and tweak on your chip setssssssssss

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha over weight bearded masterbatOR freak

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

hahahaha… typical blindly devoted apple nerd.  I have a standard macbook and a Pro.  Snow Leopard… wait for it… is the worst OS ever made.  Yes, worse than Vista.  Worse than ME too.  So go nerd up someone else that doesn’t use OSX and enjoy the ever-present Rainbow Colored Pinwheel while you try to do it.

      • IPwn

Help me understand why snow leapord sucks? I got my MacBook pro 13 inch standard model in January 2011 and it ran better than my laptop with windows 7 boot up and load times are also faster. Opening any app is faster… I don’t have a lot of stuff on my MBP mostly music. Am I missing something?

PS this is a legit question don’t take it was being sarcastic

      • Anonymous

Good argument if it were true.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

ipwn… you’ll be fine with a system native to Snow Leopard.  For anyone that got an Intel Mac (OSx86, if you will), even if they did so mere weeks before SL hit… compared to Leopard before it, Snow Leopard is painfully slow – clean installs do not address the issue.  Bootup times aren’t important to me, I don’t shut down – it’s about the time it takes to launch things, perform tasks in photoshop, save things, browse the internet – even my keystrokes buffer and throw the pinwheel in my face if I type too fast… it’s all so slow in SL, that I downgraded.  To make matters worse, SL experienced the same “horror” as Vista did with drivers and software compatibility.  It was expected to a degree because of the ultimate goal of purging PowerPC… but not as large a mess as it was.

      • Doug

I had a mac mini core solo…snow leopard made the airport unusable…just random stuff.

After that first batch or two…not so bad

      • Anonymous

worst than Vista…hahahah…that’s a good one.

    • Anonymous

      Not really.

    • Mac

YOU ARE AN OVERRATED PIECE OF SHIT.

  • LTC

    no more white plastic macbook.

  • Bringit

    Everybody wants one.

Epic fail for Apple and it’s new data centre… Download for LION is halted and constant errors for many people trying to download it.

Jobs and Co = Failure for not releasing it on a DVD… if you are going to go DIGITAL… ENSURE YOUR SERVERS CAN HANDLE IT!

    • http://twitter.com/cdoruff Collin Doruff

Or offer a predownload and unlock it on the day it’s released.

    • Susepool

how do you tell if it’s halted…..on my macbook pro is just says “installing”

    • Anonymous

      No problems here.

    • Mac

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW THAT?  WHAT A FUCKING RETARDED GOOFAN COCK SUCKER FILL MY ASS WITH GOO IDIOT.

    • ddd1301

A friend of mine did the download and his MacBook Pro is running Lion with no problems. I will be upgrading this weekend.

I have been running Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro since the initial release. It runs fine for me. I also run Win 7 and it runs OK. Although after the last Win 7 update my fan runs constantly. I am going to have to blow up Windows and stat over again. This will be the 3rd time in 18 months. Pretty sad for MS.

  • Hiremeaccenture

Has anyone upgraded to Lion yet? How is it??

    Help me get a job!!

I downloaded it this morning.  Took about an hour in total to download and install.  No problems so far everything is working great.  From what I have seen so far it is not some huge leap forward but it’s worth the $30 just to be on the latest OS.

The main reason I switched to a Mac earlier this year was to increase my productivity.  My “old” (2 years old , dual core, 4GB ram) Windows PC just kept crashing all the time, I typically had to reinstall every couple of months and I simply got fed up of the hassle.  I have had my Mac since April, still runs fast, never had to reinstall anything.  Crashes are rare and when they do happen I do not have to reboot the entire machine.  In short I wish I had switched earlier.

Here we go with the downing of products that are the best that I can’t have because I’m a piss poor droid boy comments ///// Anyways it about time they went back to the backlit keyboard that they had on the first MBA and that I enjoy on my new MBP. And btw my apple stock is looking awesome.

Basic Macbook no longer listed (only air and pro) in Mac lineup. Why did they take that down?

    • Anonymous

I would suppose the 11″ Air ate into its niche.

Whe white plastic didn’t really fit Apple’s current style.

  • magicharbor

BTW, bootcamp now works and downloads the windows files you need to finish the windows install
