Sprint’s Samsung Galaxy S II possibly leaked

mobile

When Samsung brought the Galaxy S to the United States, each of the big four carriers launched a variant of the device. We’re expecting the same roll-out with the Galaxy S II finally comes to our shores, but we haven’t heard or seen much… until now. Thisismynext recently leaked images of what appears to be a Sprint branded Galaxy S II. There are some small tweaks — the edges are rounded and aren’t as sharp as the original — but it has the same textured back and an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. Rumor has it the device could launch under the “Galaxy Within” moniker and it should offer the same gorgeous Super AMOLED Plus display and blazing fast dual-core processor as its European counterpart. It’s also said to be running Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread), which means it will offer full support for video chat using Google Talk. Hit the jump for another picture of the phone.

    Yes yes yes!!!!

    That is all.

That’s not the SGII, but the Samsung Chief 4G.  Code Name: Gahudi.  Sprint’s version to T-Mobile’s Hercules.

      pics or its not true

The pic is definitely not the Samsung Chief. I have the Chief and it has a 3.2MP camera. The lens structure is different from the photo (the Chief is rectangular instead of oval) and it doesn’t say “Sprint” on the back. The Chief does have the textured back shown in this photo, however.

old news..the article AND the phone at this point.  Why this is taking so long to hit the US is beyond me.  Might as well wait for the ICS Nexus.

I think BGR likes to be respectful of other sites stories and doesn’t repost their exclusives right away. Also, I think there’s only about 2 people writing for the site. Thirdly, waiting a few days could offer more news to break, allowing for a better coverage instead of one sentence explaining a photo and four more for filler. This is just something I’ve been noticing about BGR lately, not necessarily purely a response to your comment.

Unless its Apple related news. The more filler and less facts the better.

:) If this article was titled ‘Sprint’s iphone possibly leaked’ it would have been up a looooong time ago.

Damn you guys are late! lol This was posted a while back.

Awwh, go easy on’em. Have you any idea how many iPhone reports from investment analysts they have to go through?

  • http://twitter.com/ajac09 Anthony Evans

Sprint and its android army are feeling like over kill. Come on lets get some wp7 phones beyond the arrive.

    • serpentor

I think they’re waiting for mango.

But except for early adapters/die hard windows fans, Sprint was right to wait on WP7 – even if it wasn’t by choice.

That said I think WP7 has the prettiest UI of all.

    LTE?

    • http://profiles.google.com/jshurak Jeff Shurak

Sprint has no LTE network in place yet.  They run a WiMax now and have contracted with LightSquared to roll out an LTE network.  Considering the red tape and talk behind LightSquared, it will be a good while before LTE is in place.  Although, considering how long its taking to release this phone state side you never know!

I really wanted this phone a couple months ago..Not so much now..We all know the next latest and greatest is always right around the corner and when you have carriers who waste time releasing a phone thats been out elsewhere in the world for months it just doesn’t seem so ‘latest and greatest’ anymore..

I’ll be saving my next purchase for the beast after this one. This thing is gonna be old news by the time it comes out in the US..

    • http://profiles.google.com/jshurak Jeff Shurak

      my sentiments exactly

    • Justin Dove

…yea…but the “beast after this one” will also be old by the time you get it. I agree that as soon as we get our hands on a GS2 they’ll annonce the Galaxy Q or Nexus Prime, or whatever, but then it will be another couple of months of rumors before that finally hits. Moreover, unless you’re willing to switch carriers, there’s a good chance you’ll have to wait even longer. If you’re on Verizon right now, double that time.

      • http://profiles.google.com/jshurak Jeff Shurak

yeah but there’s a slight difference though.  One is being announced and one has already been out for months.  By your logic, yes, you’ll never buy technology because its always advancing.  By the time this comes stateside its going to be a good way into its life cycle.  At least the beast after this one will still be on paper.

I have every intention of just grabbing it as soon as VZW gets it…the Droid 1 is getting long in the tooth. As far as Verizon goes, unless it is an exclusive Droid branded phone you’ll always be waiting until it is old news before you can get to it. And with exception to the Droid 1, none of the other VZW android exclusives have been game changing list topping phones (a rant I’ll save for another time).

Whether or not the GS2 is worth pulling the trigger on comes down to what carrier you’re on and what phones are likely to land with them soon. In the case of VZW, the only visible contender in the near future is the Droid Bionic, and considering it’s sporting the same processor as the D3 I doubt it will trump the overall package of the GS2 (except maybe if the GS2 isn’t LTE in which case it’d be moot).

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com

oh god, can we be rid of this spam plague ?!!!!!

Sometimes it feels like what these carriers do should be illegal. They have the cellphone market by the balls. They control where you can talk AND what you can talk on. They decide what options you should have for buying a new phone. Then they lock you in to situations. This is a case and point. Chances are this delay has something to do with the Apple case. Whether carriers are afraid of an outcome that would ban it, or if they have some semblance of loyalty to Apple (whether that is being instigated or not). There’s also a good chance of carriers like Verizon don’t want to launch it with phones like the Droid Bionic around the corner.

When it comes down to it, you don’t really have choice in your purchase unless the options are picked the carriers. Even if you’re willing to spend a ton of money to buy an unlocked phone, you’re lucky if you can get marginal coverage with one or two carriers in the US. They do a great job of making sure they do a lot of communications over exclusive frequencies and protocols.

What they should do is make it law that cellphone manufacturers have the right to purchase and incorporate the necessary components to make their devices work on whichever networks they choose. Then carriers should be not allowed to refuse service to any device that can operate on their network except in certain circumstances which would be hazardous to their network.

    • userofphones

That would be fine if you are willing to pay the full, unsubsidized price for the phone. If you want it cheap ($0 to $200), then the carrier is subsidizing it and I have no problem with being forced to eat the carrier’s stew. If you pay the full unsubsidized price, then you should be able to get it your way. Of course, a high-end phone will cost you $600 to $700, unsubsidized.

Why the US Carriers have to butcher the looks of the original phone is beyond me, especially AT&T and T-Mobile since they are GSM and could just launch the original so it could get timely updates like the international version.
