Samsung poaches RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook senior product manager

mobile

In June we reported that Brian Wallace, RIM’s vice president of digital marketing and media, left the BlackBerry maker for greener pastures at Samsung. Now Samsung has poached another RIM exec, and this time it’s the BlackBerry PlayBook senior product manager Ryan Bidan. According to CrackBerry, Bidan recently updated his Twitter and LinkedIn profiles to reflect that he will soon serve as Samsung’s director of product marketing. The move comes about a week after Samsung saw one of its top execs also leave the firm. On July 11th Omar Khan, Samsung’s chief product technology officer announced that he was taking a new job with Citigroup.

Poaches? I see someone has been using their thesaurus

RIM products suck. Looks like a big lose for Samsung.

Have you actually tried the PlayBook? Just because the launch wasn’t flawless doesn’t mean the product sucks. It’s awesome.

    The exodus from Rimageddon begins…..

hey drama queen…one person at RIM leaves and it is “rimaggedon”? Give me a break…employees come and go in corporate america all the time.  And considering the fact that 1. he wasn’t fired and 2. he took a job that was a promotion, I hardly think this was anything other than a career advancement move …..but I’m sure iBGR and the iSheep that post here will try to make it into something it isn’t.

Drama Queen. Wha chu talkin bout Willis. Seriously though, I’m no one specific fanboy. Being I use a BB Bold 9780 as my phone and a iPad 2 and gmail as my email. I feel I can comment as I please. I don’t want Rim to fail but I’m also not in denial either. With all the drama surrounding rim and the drama created by the tech blogs it seems that rim should do everything in their power to retain their talent. I’m just borrowing the word rimaggedon from crackberry blog. Which I happen to be a member of. I hope rim succeeds and make the necessary changes to get back to #1 in the USA.

This is news? Must be a slow news day.

RIM has hired and fired around 50 people a week for the past 10 years. You’re going to have to go some to keep us up to date with this vital data.

Or is BGR losing all its sources of info from inside RIM?

I think this qualifies as being pretty important since it was the Senior Product Manager for the first QNX-based product RIM had (PlayBook). I don’t think it would be an overstatement to say that QNX is RIM’s last hope to rebound. This isn’t an intern that walked out, it was an executive in charge of the most important software platform and one of the new hardware initiatives for RIMs future.

and we can all see what a big loss he’s gonna be…not.

      • Ramses71

hardly. those choices were made elsewhere not him.

    • Ramses71

50 is conservative and I agree this is hardly news. He wasn’t much shakes at what we did anyway

RIM marketing sucks…Wallace goes to Samsung.

PlayBook launch flops…Bidan goes to Samsung.

Anyone else notice a trend starting?

Uh oh, does this mean the Samsung iPad 2…erm… Galaxy Tab 10.1 didn’t do so hot? I remember RIM was reporting they sold something like 50k PlayBooks on the first day. How bad did the 10.1 do?

Is he one of thE layoffs they were talking about??

May I have your attention please. I would like to apologize to Scroat and Bringit. I am a major douche bag and I have been a complete fandroid asshole. Scroat and Bringit I am sorry.

    p.s. I have a small penis

You guys use the label ‘executive’ WAY, WAY, too liberally.

    • Ramses71

hahahaha. Exactly. Senior product manager was just someone who co-ordinated things. Not much of a decision maker internally.

  • Winblows

Hard to compare the pbook launch which was simultaneous in most major markets wheras the Tab 10.1 is being launched gradually.

    • Anonymous

um what?  The playbook was launched in the USA and Canada and the global launch didn’t start for weeks later.

    Why?

Rats continue to jump sinking ship. Only ones left on board are tech mental midget morons stuck on stupid and physical keyboards.

    • Applesucksfatties

Maxipad… save iBGR some server space (and me the time of having to read your same stupid lame ass comments about RIM) and just skip the post next time.  We all know you iSheep love your iCrap devices and that they are the greatest in everything they do….and that anyone who wants a device other than something made by crApple is just an idiot with no brains.  BAAAAAAAAAH  BAAAAAAAAH

  • http://twitter.com/jaytee1o4 jaytee1o4

damn whats next? this dude rocked :(

  • Applesucksfatties

What I don’t get about the idiots posting smack about RIM “sinking” is why would you want a company to fail and put people out of jobs…even if they were a direct competitor to your favorite compamy?  I may post negative comments about crApple but i truly don’t care one way or the other about their products.  What really gets me about crApple is their iDoucher fans, with their delusional view of how “great” crApple products are.  IMO, you obnoxious crApple fans are just a shade more annoying than the Jehova’s witnesses that go door to door trying to force their religion down your throats. STOP TRYING TO FORCE YOUR RELIGION DOWN OUR THROATS!  It is okay to have BlackBerries, Windows phones, and Android phones as choices when it comes to buying a new phone.

iBinLaden has created a following of iTaliban mobileOS religious zealot extremists to go and unleash their internet mobile forum terrorism. LOL

      • Applesucksfatties

I’m guessing since BinLaden is dead, he appointed Max as his successor to bring the message to the masses…

How ironic….If iPhone fans are religious nuts then your the atheist with a tin foil hat telling us the aliens are coming… Your just as annoying as the fanboys. If you really didnt care about “crApple” you wouldnt be here posting all this bs towards your dislike of a company products or the consumers who use them.

      • Applesucksfatties

Hey Marco… 1. I never said Apple fans ARE religious nuts.. I said they are LIKE religious nuts.. trying to ram their love of Apple down everyone’s throat.   2.  I am indifferent about Apple..   my dislike is with posters like Max and a host of others that come out to RIM articles to bash RIM/RIM products and spout off how great Apple products are ..   Any questions?

  • Rudy

So let me get this straight…

When someone leaves RIM because they get a promotion and raise, the company is going down.

When someone leave Apple, it’s because?  If I recall last week Apple’s top patent lawyer quit.  Therefore Apple is on the verge of bankruptcy!!  How about the Chief of Product Development for Google Jonathan Rosenberg quit…does that mean Google is going under because there is no more Product Development?

Go back to flipping burgers or greeting visitors at Walmart, because obviously you don’t know how to get ahead in life.  If you are with a company for more then 5 years, you are doing something wrong, recession or not.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, WildCent. com
