RIM to discontinue Wi-Fi BlackBerry PlayBook?

mobile

In a note to investors Monday afternoon, RBC Capital Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky reiterated an OTR Global report that Research In Motion is possibly planning to stop production of the current Wi-Fi BlackBerry PlayBook model. The Wi-Fi version of the BlackBerry tablet is the only version Research In Motion sells for the time being. The reasons for the discontinuation of the Wi-Fi edition, Abramsky states, could be related to a pullback in production, a move that would align channel inventory with slower than expected sell-through, in addition to RIM focusing on upcoming PlayBook versions with cellular connectivity.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com

Does BGR always publish dodgy rumours without bothering to confirm.

Why don’t you report on good things from RIM now?

  • http://goodereader.com/blog/ Good E-Reader

Why is everyone lamenting about this? RIM Promised Android Support, EMAIL, BBM and has delivered nothing. RIM is an enterprise and corporation friendly company yet alienated them at every turn with their half baked effort.

Why not make the article title something like,
“Rim to add 3G/4G capabilities to Wi-Fi only Playbook, Wi-Fi only version may be in less demand”
This is a positive step for Rim, BGR’s title twists it into negative with the rediculous title.

Instead of making an obvious negative statement, misleading the general public.
BGR is rapidly developing a reputation of producing unreliable & misleading information. The tech savvy readers know this already, and it will eventually trickle down to the average technnology researcher.

Using words like “possibly” and “could be” basicly say that this is only the authors opinion, based on nothing factual…

It did generate some hits on the site though, so maybe the money is coming in, which seems to be the main objective.

Search “Baby PlayBook” on YouTube.  You’ll quickly see why RIM is / should pull the plug.

Fake articles by uninformed analysts, trying to game the system and influence RIM shares . I love my playbook, even more than I do my ipad (jailbroken and all). BGR can do better than always jumping on these reports based on nothing but rumours and half truths. Seriously, how dumb do you think we are….

  • Tech Junkie

Wow!!  BGR is the tabloid version of tech blog sites.

    **Interview Oppurtunity for BGR**
I was just caught in an unknown tractor beam by 2-headed space aliens. They needed the QNX codes from my Playbook to re-image the control system for there ship!

Of course I didn’t give it up and now I’m trapped in a mirror prison for eternity.

Kinda angry that RIM produced such a half-hearted effort. I was waiting for larger 10″ playbook and the update bringing e-mail and PIM functions, then they cancelled the 10″ and, as of yet, have yet to update much of anything. I am a little concerned at recent products entering the market that are half baked, yet full price (Playbook, Touchpad, etc).

This just proves that you can’t succeed on promises……

    I feel a song coming on…

    Na, Na, Na, Na,
    Hey, Hey,
    Good Bye!

A huge part of my problem with RIM right now is that I think they have -no real strategy going forward- and -no real clue- what their market should be.  If it’s the “enterprise”, then a WiFi Playbook makes sense for things like Point of Sale, Inventory, Medical, etc use; all places where you want to keep the device on a closed WiFi network.

I tend to agree with you. These phones are great and a MUST HAVE.The PlayBook is the only tablet that the US government is permitted to use because of it’s reliability and secuirty.
It is the BEST tablet in the world today !!! Hands Down.

this is just crap.. it becomes just a game of senseless schoolyard beating and all the kids have to be on the bad side or get beaten themselves..

RIM has innovated beyond even Apple up to 2007. This is a tight game, and it has more to do with Android devices being actually decent phones.. something that was just recently seen in the market and has many consumers caught off guard.

Yes RIM sat on its laurels, but it can innovate and add wealth to our technology. Sure, slap them on the wrists for being comfy, but then sit tight and expect big things. Stop the senseless beating and making up stories just to get more page views on your blog.
