HP swaps Pre3 1.4GHz processor for dual-core 1.2GHz chip

mobile

HP updated its Pre3 website with changes that suggest the company has swapped out the phone’s single-core processor for a dual-core chip. The site now includes a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in the phone’s spec sheet, as opposed to the original 1.4GHz Scorpion CPU that was originally listed. In June the Pre3 began popping up on U.K. retail websites with a July 8th launch date, but that day has come and gone and the Pre3 has yet to make an appearance. Perhaps the processor tweak has been responsible for the delay, but that’s not yet clear. Additionally, it doesn’t appear that the company has tweaked any of the phone’s other specifications. The Pre3 passed through the FCC in May and it is expected to launch on Verizon Wireless in the U.S. Unfortunately, we’re still not sure when the device will actually hit store shelves.

yo this is old news. it was a copy and paste from the touchpad. get with it.

  • JTEP13

This is gr8 news.  Now if they would work on a better quality screen and better cameras.  Oh and can you get this out pretty quickly, my phone is crapping out.

    Thanks

  • Rick

    PreCentral already dispelled this rumor

    • Anonymous

Yup….it doesn’t have Beats Audio either…..they must have got this news from “Anonymous” working over at RIM

I wonder if this even matters. The there aren’t many who will actually want the Pre 3. As much as I like WebOS, the devices have been pretty pitiful.

    • Tyler Bayne

I’d love to have the Pre 3.

and this rumor is false like some other people have said.

  • http://twitter.com/chriscanty chris canty

Call me when they swap the screen out for a 4 inch one and then text me when they get rid of that awful keyboard.

    K, thx.

  • James Dean

Yea too little too late if this is even true.  I love the WebOS but I have jumped to a much better Android device

Now that big daddy Larry page tells you what to do, what part of his body are you sucking off today?

      • Anthonyr32

        His ear, douche….

        What’s next his toes?

Even if this was true, Palm hasn’t done much, if anything, to make me WANT a WebOS phone.

Isn’t it crazy that a decade ago, people were associating PDAs with PALM???? Even the first smartphones…they were either BLACKBERRIES or PALMS.

Kinda like cell phone was a Nokia or Motorola.

Or for the old folks….how making a copy was “XEROXING”

It’s 2011 and few say Xeroxing, fewer (in America) associate cell phone with Nokia, and almost none associate smartphone with Palm…now, when people say they got a smart phone, they say they have an iPhone or Droid!

My, how technology changes. Palm had the bull by the horns….and foolishly banked on the wrong crowd and lost it!

  • Anonymous

they seem to be utterly clueless. tiny phones for tiny people with tiny fingers. what a strategy

  • Douche

Why do they insist on putting out a phone thar looks identical to a palm. Palm phones didn’t sell you idiots!

…In related news, Packard Bell will soon be coming out with a new flagship computer, boasting a 1.4Ghz processor, 512M ram, and a 20 gig hard drive.  Computer enthusiasts everywhere yawned.

I read this, and thought that I would share this with you:

It’s easy to see why RIM will be the dominant Smartphone
    player in the east.

Apple is an American company; Apple pays taxes to the American
government. The government uses that money to purchase weapons and missiles, to
use against the people of the east.

Android is software made by Google. Google is an American
company; Google pays taxes to the American government. The government uses that
money to purchase weapons and missiles, to use against the people of the east.

Nokia and Microsoft together. Microsoft is an American
company; Microsoft pays taxes to the American government. The government uses
that money to purchase weapons and missiles, to use against the people of the
    east.

RIM is a Canadian company. Canadians love everyone.

Nokia use to do very well out east. But now that they have
joined an American company, it’s an entire new ball game.

    • Anonymous

So….who pays for the weapons for the people in the east to use against the people in the west?

      • sad

People that buy gas or narcotics?

      • Anonymous

Once again …. the Americans. It’s all oil money, and the Americans buy the oil.

      • Biorkman

        You’re a fecking idiot.

webOS has been in my past for over 1 1/2 years now. The problem continues to be an inability to ship a product. Just ship the damn thing and upgrade yearly. Can’t believe it lacks beats audio, though…….

  • Musaji

Yawn …. Too little too late.

  • cashmoney240

i just never understood how all of these companies are able to produce/pump out these phones on an almost bi/tri-monthly basis and people rejoice, and neither palm/hp has had ANY sort of urgency to hit the market with ANY of their products… you’re not apple, you havent established a base of consumers who want a product that is released once a year. i LOVE webos, and still have my launch day pre-, but somethings gotta give HP, people are losing faith quickly…

    • Anonymous

i totally agree with you. they think that they could imitate apple’s one device a year policy, strategy, business plan but i don’t think that its feasible for them. they need to start releasing this crap pretty quickly and in many more form factors. i get that they have the veer, but that’s just a mini pre.

  • Anonymous

    Wow.
Have you people tried the RIM PlayBook.
It is totally AWESOME. Highly recommended! Great speed, a great tablet.
    J.

28 comments man o man webos more like fagos just saying.

For the love of god why can’t they get rid of that crazy form factor. I hope HP does something about it.

    • http://disqus.com Peter Mullen

What’s wrong with the form factor?  Let me guess, it should be more like an iPhone.

  • http://twitter.com/ReleaseDateGuru Release Date Guru

It seems that HP switched back the specs. Under processor, it now lists the
    Qualcomm MSM 8×55 1.4 GHz Processor…
