Microsoft thinks Nokia deal could push annual Windows Phone sales past 100M units

Business

As a result of the newly inked deal between Microsoft and Nokia, the Redmond-based software giant hopes to eventually sell 100 million Windows Phone devices annually. “We have dreams and aspirations that we can get to 100 million units per year with that single deal,” Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner said during his presentation at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference on Wednesday. Following Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer’s earlier admission that Windows Phone sales are still “very small,” it is now more apparent than ever that the Nokia deal can potentially make or break Microsoft’s mobile business. While there are already a handful of great devices on the market, other Windows Phone partners such as Samsung, HTC and LG are currently focusing the bulk of their efforts on Android-powered smartphones, leaving Windows Phone 7 as something of an afterthought. Android has continued to grow rapidly over the past eight months while Microsoft’s mobile OS share in the key U.S. market has actually dropped 35% since the introduction of Windows Phone 7 last November. Turner gave no indication as to how quickly Microsoft hopes to reach the 100 million-device milestone.

This definitely scared me as a DROID-Elite.  Apple’s iSheep won’t dither from their suckling of Job’s balls, but DROID owners will flock to WP7 because 1.) It’s not Apple 2.) it works well 3.) more QUALITY developer support that DROID OS currently lacks and 4.) less fragmentation.

Dark times ahead for DROID indeed….

Coming from you, it’s scary! Could this be the end Google’s run? Will this cause the Goofans (Akash Apple Hater) nation to abandon our mom’s basements and fight a la Harry Potter against Voldemort (Microsoft)?

      How predictable….

Really? You are sucking on Balmer’s balls to hopefully score a date with Bill Gates.

      +1.

      MS, keep “thinking”

Maybe Microsoft is finally “thinking different”.  :D

Of course MS thinks so… they know investors are reading this.

They also announced that they think that not lighting the fireplace this Christmas Eve will cause Santa Clause to show up.

If they do meet this mark they will be sued by Apple, guarantee it.

Those are some pretty rosy predictions from Microsoft. The only way that happens is if Nokia successfully migrates the majority of their Symbian customers to WP7. And that’s a tough sell.

Microsoft’s odd belief that people will flock to their handsets just because they say “Nokia” on them is just baffling.

Both companies must think they’re still in the 90s.

Microsoft… one suggestion. Stop being in the clouds…

If WP7 isn’t doing well right now, how can you expect the help of Nokia will help boost up sales?

    • Anonymous

Becausev they sell more phones than anyone on the planet

        400 million dumbphones =/= 100 million smartphones.  true story™©®

Samsung took that crown away from them just this year. Nokia’s on the way out.

And when the Finns bluntly tell Bomber to leave the room because he’s acting like a four year old and has messed his pants in the meeting, the flying monkeys left in Redmond will run Bomber Out of the business if they have any hope for the future…

that a big number for Microsoft at this stage. hopefully its sooner then later

I believe most of the growth will be in Asia.  Nokia still have a very strong brand there.

There will growth everywhere else also, but the adoption rate will likely be slower because people will be taking a “wait and see” approach.  They’ll want to see what types of devices Nokia delivers and what the final WP7 Mango update will have.

I do expect this partnership to be a huge success for both Microsoft and Nokia.

Yeah right. 100 million. Lol. Only way this happens is if they follow the crapdroid game plan and build piece of shit phones that they sell for $150 off contract and do bogo promotions. We all need to communicate somehow. Plenty of grass skirt wearing Africans living in huts who would love to have an iPhone but can only afford androids and windows phones. Microsoft will be out of business in two years.  true story™©®

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com

WTF is it with you Microcrap why hitch your horses to a dying Finnish company with even less forethought  then you? The only thing Fin’s are good for nowadays is arguing with Norwegian’s over which nation can play better gay ass black metal. Besides that Finland isn’t known for being good at anything. Traditionally the only thing they were good at was running around wearing dumb looking horned viking hats while sailing in gay looking dragon ships. Granted those dragon ship sailors with silly gay assed horned hats were also pretty good at killing and stealing stuff from the rest of Europe but those days are long gone. Monkey Boy Ballmer is going to run Microcrap into the ground with his stupid idea’s and lack of vision.

Of course Microsoft lost aggregate market share. WinMo is being phased out. I think the jury is still out on WP7. We’ll know more in 6 months, after the OS update, new handsets, and a holiday shopping season. If WP7 is still losing ground then . . . yeah . . . time to sound the alarm.

Haha yeah right M$ thinks they can surpass 100 million units please.
