Foxconn to build Amazon’s 10.1-inch tablet

Tablets

Foxconn will build Amazon’s rumored 10.1-inch tablet, DigiTimes reported on Thursday. The Android tablet is expected to ship in 2012 according to the report, but Amazon may want to get the device out the door a bit earlier in order to to have it on store shelves in time for the holiday season. A smaller 7-inch version that was built by Quanta computer is already on its way to Amazon and, while other reports suggested it is a 9-inch tablet, that is likely the model we have heard will launch in late August or September. We broke the news that Amazon will launch a “Coyote” tablet that packs a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra processor, as well as a larger “Hollywood” tablet powered by the new quad-core Kal-El chip. Since Kal-El devices aren’t shipping to consumers yet, it could be a safe bet to guess that Quanta Computer built the Coyote tablet while Foxconn has scored the order for the more powerful Hollywood device.

Oh my god amazon tablet is gonna kill the iPad….. NOT.

I don’t think anyone has even said anything about such – Seems more to me Amazon saw how well the Nook Color did and figured they might want to have something to match except having tablet functionality out of the box whereas the Nook Color’s capabilities were discovered after some creative types decided to see what could be done with it – I hope Amazon’s tablets are also mod-friendly as well..

Last time I checked, consumer choice and product diversity were good things – the cream of the crop will rise to the surface and the crap will fail..

I for one don’t want to see a tech world totally dominated device-wise or service wise by one company..

It’s going to kill Android tablets, since it will be running a forked (or should I say fragmented?) version of Android. And unlike Google, Amazon actually has a store offering legal ways to buy music.

but, amazon’s music store app is available on the Android Market too,

I guess Apple will be looking for a new company to build the iPad now .p
