Microsoft slips, possibly confirms Windows Phone ‘Mango’ release by September

Breaking

Did a Microsoft employee just inadvertently let the cat out of the bag? Posting to the company’s official Microsoft Imagine Cup Twitter account, a Microsoft rep confirmed that all Imagine Cup challenge finalists will receive Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” handsets early this fall. Of course it wouldn’t be the first time Microsoft slipped this week. The post reads: “ImagineCup finalists ALL receive Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Release!! Each student will get the phone by September!” We doubt the tech giant plans to dole out pre-release devices, so it could be safe to assume the first batch of Mango phones will launch in late August or early September. Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Thanks, David

I sure hope so, I have been waiting for a Windows Phone device for a long time now.  I guess the time is soon!

I actually spoke to someone from a Microsoft store and I was told that the Mango will be released on september the 22nd. I am just waiting on my Nokia phone. The only thing that is messed up is that I will have to pay full price since I am like only 2 months into a contract.

does ‘released on 22nd’ mean by microsoft or do we have to wait 3 more months for the carriers to do their ‘testing’ before getting it?

        I’ve got T-Mobile, they don’t test lol.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing Windows Phone improvements. I wish I could have stuck with my HD7 but I needed a better browser…hopefully Mango addresses that.

Stuff like this and telling people months in advance that this and that is right around the corner = no one buying what’s on the shelves today.
MS needs to be like apple. Keep that crap QUIET until it comes out!
Best way to avoid selling todays product, tell me what will be for sale next week.

They don’t care about today’s phones.  They want Mango’s release, and the new wave of phones to have a massive absorption rate.

Unfortunately no one is buying existing phones anyway!

No, you spelled Micro$oft wrong, you troll troll!
Sorry, not repeating my arguments against M$ every time, i meet an ignorant person on the web. Had to many stupid discussions…. Just inform yourself about the bad behaviour of M$ ..
By the way, i am NOT a ignorant Apple fanboy! Apple and M$ are abusing the wronggoing patentsystem …. OK!?

To be honest, this only confirms what we knew al along. Considering the yearly releases.

MS needs to release something now, not down the road when it will only be buried more by the other companies.

I am just hoping that the apparent WP7 on a galaxy s 2 is happening and it occurs on Verizon even though the brilliant minds over there chose to skip one of the best selling phones next to the iphone.  Tsk Tsk
