Motorola updating Wi-Fi XOOM to Android 3.2

Software

Motorola began issuing the Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) update to Wi-Fi XOOM owners on Tuesday. The patch reportedly adds support for the tablet’s SD card slot and also features a new screen zooming feature that will allow users to resize mobile applications so that they fit the screen appropriately. Android 3.2 will also add support for smaller tablets with 7-inch screens, many of which currently run older versions of Android such as Gingerbread. Google also announced that it is releasing parts of the Android 3.2 source code to the Android Open Source Project.

Still no LTE upgrade. Hmmm. . .

    • Booboolala2000

Just cleared the FCC twelve hours ago douchebag. And how is your Ipad with LTE treating you? Didn’t think so. Or hows browsing the web? Pretty tired. Ipad doesn’t even handle HTML 5 that well either. Oh, but it has some pretty useful apps, which I would, like you to point out below. Just give me ten.

Is that all the Xoom can do, browse the web! How pathetic. How come the Xoom’s are still idling on the shelves? How many apps do they have? About 2.5 I suppose. So go back to your basement and suck on your own dick. Shithead!

Actually the Xoom can do a lot more.  Much more.

As a poster providing a review on Amazon of the Xoom said in comparing the Xoom vs iPad, the Xoom is like chess, while iPad is like checkers.

Xoom has an O/S which may be a bit confusing, or difficult to learn…but over time, the benefits are fantastic as it can do so many things, and ‘grow’ with you.

iPad has an O/S which is easy to learn, and quick to pick up…but over time, it becomes a no-brainer “so easy a 4 year old can operate it” appliance.

So there you have it.  I think I’ll stick with the grown-ups’ tablet.

Apple didn’t promise LTE on the iPad “shortly after launch.” Now, go back down into your mother’s basement, put your underoos back on, and watch the cartoons. Thanks.

Maybe that will be on the Ipad 3, or the Ipad 4 which should be out 3 to 6 months after the Ipad 3.

    Honeycomb on NookColor sometime?

So all 37 Xoom owners should be excited.

      Ouch

    • Jon Calanio

Uhm, there are thousands of Xoom owners, a majority of them reside at XDA-Developers forums.

Worthless, fix the flash lag and then talk tough.

    • QuickWeevil

Got two updates (Evo 3D Market, Xoom) in one day. Not bad

Hopefully the other Honeycomb tablets, specifically the G-Slate, get updates as well. I’d like he resizeable widgets.

Who needs to run a Half-OS like iOS and Android when there will be enough juice in these multi-core mobile cores soon to run a Full-OS like MSFT Windows 7 or 8. iOS and Android will just be a blip in history.

I used to have a windows tablet. You can keep it. They have never done well. When I pick up my tablet I want to plop on the couch and just browse, play a game, or read news. I don’t want to plop on the couch, fiddle with a start menu, run an app, wait, resize my window, then read. I don’t want a full desktop OS. That is what my laptop is for. I want an instant on, instant do appliance.

Why would anyone want a Full OS on a Tablet?!?!  They haven’t!!!! Windows Tablets have been around for YEARS and sales have always been poor.   You want to run windows programs that have been designed for use with a keyboard and mouse on a Tablet using your fingers?     That’s just dumb.  MS still doesn’t seem to get it!?!?!?!  MS should have been putting effort into having a Windows Mobile 7 or 8 Tablet.  Doing the same as Apple with iOS and Google with Android.  MS still doesn’t seem to get it.

notice how noone talks about android’s honeycomb UI. its because its a boring POS.

windows 8 and iPad will utterly destroy it.

    • Anonymous

No one wants a Full OS on a Tablet.  Windows has been on tablets for Years and they don’t sell.  Software is all designed for a keyboard and mouse setup.  MS should be focusing on Windows Mobile 7 or 8 Tablets instead!!!

WTF? Seriously. I’m still sitting on 3.0.1 here in Germany. No fix in sight.
Motorola sucks at launching software across regions.

    • Anonymous

You literally could have stopped at, “Motorola sucks” and we could have all agreed and moved on.

  • Anonymous

I will say this for Android, software updates seem to slow down the devices for whatever reason. This woman I work with received an OTA for her Samsung Galaxy S (I think that is correct) two nights ago and there is a little lag to the “head hider”.

Great news!  My Xoom got the 3.1 update within 2 days of the announcement.  Im hoping i get this one just as quickly.   Although I really do feel for the Euro guys who Motorola has just left hanging on the updates.  Not cool.

  • Dhh72386

I just want my SD slot activated, been waiting for months and can’t wait till it finally comes. I haven’t gotten my update yet, has anyone on here gotten there’s yet???

  • henry astacio

  • Ceesbierkens

We in Erop are not allowed to have any update. Bad Motorola. Maybe guy,s from red@ write a stor about the policy and service from Motorola for the Xoom and specialy the non-us Xoom. We are discriminated over here. Hope you guy’s are getting the thruth out. Tanks all ready

Hello, Xoom Folks. I updated my “WIFI only” Motorola Xoom to 3.2 and am using a Micro SD card
(32GB) in the “now” functioning slot. Moreover,  I tested file
transferring via a SD card adapter, USB cable and WIFI (using a Cisco
Wireless Router) and the performance is off the charts. Honeycomb recognizes the Micro SD disk with no issues.
As part of my data flow test, I transferred a 1080p HD movie (MP4) and
several hundred songs (MP3) onto the mounted disk. All media plays
perfectly.  When Motorola says it’s coming, once they build it, it will come!  Note to file: The Class 6, 32GB Kingston Micro SD disk is from Taiwan.
