Google chairman Eric Schmidt to testify during Senate antitrust hearing

Legal

Google’s chairman and former CEO Eric Schmidt has agreed to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee, Reuters reported on Monday. On June 24th, Google announced that the Federal Trade Commission would be reviewing its business practices. The search giant said it was “still unclear” as to what the FTC’s concerns were but that it would cooperate fully with the investigation. Watchdog groups such as Fairsearch.org have repeatedly accused Google of eangaging in anti-competitive behavior. “I look forward to discussing a number of important issues relating to Google and Internet search competition,” Senator Mike Lee, the lead Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s anti-trust subcommittee said.

Google SHOULD be allowed a monopoly.  They are, by far, the most God-like and anti-evil organization in the world.  Only then will we have peace in this world.  Once Google has full control.  Most importantly, they can’t be bothered while they ensure the final destruction of Apple.  Geeze, don’t the feds know this already?????

If Google takes over the world, we would get everything free.  Before eating our free food, we will have to say grace to the sponsor.

Nothing is 100% free Chupacabra.  Nothing.  In this case, so what if we give up all our information to Google?  Who better than Google to guard all this amazing information.  I trust them implicitly.  Like every Goofan (aka Apple Hater) should!

“The search giant said it was “still unclear” as to what the FTC’s concerns were”.  Well you were the campaign advisor and major donor of Democrat president Obama, and senator Mike Lee is a Republican.  Are you “still unclear” Mr. Schmidt?

Chupacabra, Eric shows an amazing amount of insight and intellectual ability by supporting our president.  All, or at least about 98% of the employees, supported Mr. Obama.  I guess that proves your statement correct. :-)

The usual government shake down. Google could’ve avoided this if they’d massaged some key politicians.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com

I think this has some merit. When you’re the de-facto search engine of the masses, you have to be really careful how you promote your other services, especially when you’re actively competing in social networking.

I mean, I’m guessing if someone is on both Facebook and Google+ and you search for them, it’s not going to be Facebook that comes up first. The question this is whether Google manipulates its search results.

Even if it’s not currently being abused, the market power Google has EASILY could be used for ill gains. That’s the power you get when you control the information flow… I wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of regulations drafted up or something.

I think it would be severe if they broke up Google’s search away from its other not-directly related services, and unlikely given the government’s hand-slap to Microsoft.
