Apple ‘iPad 3′ said to launch this fall; second manufacturer could help meet demand

DigiTimes adds fuel to the fire Monday morning with a report that Apple is looking to add a second manufacturing partner for its popular iPad line of tablets in order to help meet demand when the company launches a new iPad model this fall. The report adds that either iPhone maker Pegatron Technology or Quanta Computer will likely gain the contract to build iPads alongside Foxconn. While the report refers to an “iPad 3″ that will launch later this year, it has become increasingly likely that the new model rumored to launch in September will be a complimentary iPad variant as opposed to a new model. Dubbed the “iPad 2 Plus” or “iPad HD” by analysts and the media, the high-end iPad is said to feature specs similar to the current iPad 2 but with a double-resolution display, among other things. According to DigiTimes’ report, the new iPad model will launch either late in the third quater or early in the fourth quarter, with third-quarter shipments expected to ramp up to 13 million units.

    If Apple launches 3 new devices this fall, it will be a nightmare. If the rumors of the iPhone going to every carrier are true. They will need more than 2 manufacturers.
    I can’t remember Apple ever updating a device twice in the same year.

      And this report is based on a Digitimes report that cites industry sources, not an analyst. I hope you pay more attention to detail when you’re taking your high school exams.

        LOL.  So far “industry sources” have Apple releasing approx 27 different product or product versions this fall.  Not to mention all the products “industry sources” said Apple was going to release in June that didn’t happen.

        I could careless how much the analyst makes, doesn’t mean what they say is true. They keep running their mouths with nothing to back it up. Apple has never released 2 updates of 1 device in a year. Not to mention they can’t keep up with demand on 1 product release at a time. Why the hell would anyone think they could handle 3 product launches at the same time.

        So I stand corrected it wasn’t another analyst, big frigging deal. Digitimes is just as bored & has nothing else to do but spread rumors.

        I’ll leave it at this. If Apple is dumb enough to launch three iDevices at one time. They deserve the disaster that will follow. Hell they couldn’t keep up with the iPhone launch, when it was just being launched for AT&T.

        The funny thing is that, when I started reading BGR, it was a website for BlackBerry fanboys.

        Maybe, just maybe, they bash BlackBerry because the company is a joke and has been releasing the same product for the past 4 years.

        Is it possible that Apple, in general, the best mobile tech products in the market and it is difficult not to tell the truth when you’re a website that writes reviews of products?

        You use of the word “best” is totally subjective. Apple has decent technology, but so do the others – Palm, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone. You may not prefer something, but that doesn’t mean it’s inferior. This blog most certainly favors Apple, and to a certain extent, Android. They are biased. And if that’s not enough, they post the most ridiculous stories. I think they may have some kind of quota since they got bought-out. I would name the company, but last time I tried the comment didn’t get “approval”.

    At some point there has to be a backlash.  I’m a Apple supporter but with the middle class shrinking…I don’t know.  I bought an ipad 2 a few months ago, and unless they market this as a super high end device, it’ll feel like a slap in the face. 
    At least Android (not a fan, btw) has the excuse of multiple manufacturers.

    Whether they call it the iPad 2

      Who knows why for sure, whatever the case I believe the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a top notch tablet that has the ability to compete against others including the iPad.

    I don’t think 2011 is good year to launch the iPad 3. At least Apple will give one year to iPad 2. I think there is lots of iPad 2 users will not happy with this fast update. Because this update make there device older in technology.

    I really doubt all those people who just bought ipad 2 or discounted ipads are going to turn right around and buy the ipad3/ipad2+.

    They just dumped money into a purchase, yes they will WANT the new one, but I doubt demand will be as high as people think.

    Remember the white iPhone? Anyone with one of those wasted their money. People who have not bought any iPad and have been waiting will likely buy the new ipad, or just wait for the new real one next year. 

    I still like my Xoom over my friend’s ipad2.

    I am waiting for iPad HD which is rumored to have Retina display. That alone is enough for me to wait a little longer. I plan to buy the iPad for the wifey who can’t get enough of my Asus Transformer… the iPad will suit her very well.

    Does 2048×1536 mean “double” or “quadruple” of 1024×768 resolution?

      I believe you would consider that quadruple if your talking from an overall pixel count, considering each side is doubling, but overall area of pixels is 4 times more, simple example, 4*4=16    8*8=64
