Spotify announces imminent U.S. launch

Services

Custom music steaming company Spotify on Wednesday announced that it will soon launch its popular service in the U.S. The company has been rumored to be in negotiations with major U.S. music labels for more than a year now, and it looks like those negotiations finally panned out. ”The award-winning music service that’s taken Europe by storm will soon be landing on US shores,” the company said in a statement on its website. “Millions of tracks ready to play instantly, on your computer and your phone.” In markets where the service is currently available, Spotify allows users to stream music on demand for free to PCs. For a monthly fee, the service adds additional features and supports more devices, such as the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Pricing and other details for the U.S. market have not yet been announced.

Can someone educate me as to the differences between this service and Pandora?

“So here we go: Spotify is amazingly slick as a product. Really it is. You want to listen to a song – almost any song ever recorded – just type its name into Spotify and it plays. For free. If you want to listen to unlimited songs without obtrusive ads, or if you want to download the songs for offline listening, then you pay ten Euro a month and it’s all yours. It’s a thing of beauty.”
Basic run down by tech crunch.

Bah, likely my comment will never show up that I originally posted since it had a link…European folks can correct me if I’m wrong, but this sounds exactly like Grooveshark.

They have a web based version of the service and an app for every phone except iPhone (unless it’s jail broken).

I wonder how long it will take before everyone realizes that Spotify’s profit model is entirely unsustainable and the entire thing collapses.

Pandora hasn’t made any money yet. That doesn’t seem to be stopping anyone. Companies like these survive on hope.

Hope that the RIAA collapses, I guess, since it’s their fees that seem to make these models unsustainable.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com
