Apple files complaint with ITC to block import of Samsung smartphones and tablets

Legal

Last week Samsung filed an official complaint with the International Trade Commission (ITC) asking the government body to block the import of Apple’s iPod, iPhone, and iPad. Apple flipped the tables on Samsung and has filed its own complaint with the ITC asking that it block the import of Samsung’s tablets and smartphones, Bloomberg said. The move follows Apple’s request to a U.S District Court in San Jose to block the import of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, DROID Charge and Nexus S 4G. The legal battle has been ongoing since Apple filed a lawsuit against Samsung in April and accused the Korean phone maker of creating copycat devices that infringed on its intellectual property. Samsung bit back later in April and said that it will do everything it can to protect its own intellectual property. Meanwhile, U.S. courts have granted Apple access to Samsung’s most recent products, but have denied Samsung the same access to the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 3. The legal battle could place strain on Samsung’s component business, which is expected to struggle during the second half of this year — Apple is the largest buyer of Samsung’s LCD products.

There’s no reason to block the Nexus 4G if you’re bitching about TouchWIZ. If you’re thinking that Samsung is copying your design so much that people can’t even tell the difference between a Nexus 4G and the new iPhone, you’re goddamned idiots.

I can’t wait until this pissing contest is over. If Apple is such hot shit, they should be making fun of Samsung for copying them, not suing. Less litigation, more making things prettier than anybody else in the business.

    • Anonymous

They’ll end up settling, Samsung will change TouchWIZ a bit and charge Apple less for components.

      • Anonymous

That’d be fine by me. I don’t care what the particulars are. I just want them to stop wasting time and money by going through this charade.

      • Anonymous

Samsung won’t have too. Their phones already look better than your icrap.

Question why did apple have to make them give them some of those products they were all available for purchase at that time they could go out and buy them

    • Biggles

The very same company that charges steep premiums won’t shell out the money to buy the devices in question.  You can almost choke on the irony.

How many apple post can we have in one day BGR? Take the apple balls out of your mouths…

What do you want them to write about? All the malware in the android app market, bugy UI or how you’r phone is outdated before you even buy it. Goooo Android!!!

      • Anonymous

You have no clue what you are talking about. When I bought the Htc Evo it wasn’t outdated. As a matter of fact I’m running Gingerbread 2.3 now. You might want to check on the Verizon iphone though since they weren’t able to get apple’s new update back in march when the phone was less than a month old. If you want to be hypocritical then that’s you but know your facts first.

The Android Market isn’t locked and chained like the app store is or anything that apple owns. You better be quiet before granddaddy Jobs tell you more stuff you can and can’t do with his products, slave boy. Apple owns you and your mind. Appleton

do you even know what you’re talking about.  Because, you know, the iphone which gets released only once a year is never out of date ever.  I hear they’re putting an 8MP camera in the iphone 5.  That’s awesome advancement in technology.  Now, sarcasm is sometimes hard to pick up on the internet, so let me fill you in.  My post is dripping with it.

Apple is going to get burned at the end suing everyone. Making more enemies.

    • Steve Lee

Apple against the world. I guess thats how Apple trying to rule the world.

    • http://twitter.com/jj_hh1 J Hamburg

If your supplier starts imitating your products, CI and branding it’s perfectly OK to be suing. So unbiased people won’t mind Apple to fire against that kind of behaviour. I for myself admire the apple design and willingness to invest in innovation- and branding-skills for the past 20 years and I started only to dislike Sammy when they started hitch hiking insted of innovating. I won’t approve or reward that kind of behaviour. Samsung is banned from my home for as long as they don’t get back to invest in their own design team and technical innovations.

      • guest

Good. I have also banned Samsung from my home.

    • guest

They need to stop stealing Apple’s innovation.

      • http://profiles.google.com/jshurak Jeff Shurak

the only innovation apple is guilty of in the past decade is exceptional marketing.  Got you fooled.

If apple had any brains and balls they would come out with thee super phone of the century. But guess what Apple has lost it’s balls and brains, even they are copying off of Android now.

What utter disappointment, Apple don’t get mad that Samsung phones is selling like crack, go back to the drawing board and innovate!! I’m sorry innovation left apple after the ipod idea, since then we have been witnessing utter crap each year and a new app just to catch up with competition!!

    • Biggles

Apple is annoyed because current Android phones are sporting features that weren’t due to be completely integrated until the iPhone 12G.  true story #$%

      • http://twitter.com/Kevniv Kevin N

        LOL true!

    • Anonymous

Apple hasn’t innovated since the iPod? Really?

So, let’s just forget about the 2007 iPhone, the 2010 iPad, and all that mumbo-jumbo about forcing competition to up its build quality and user experience?

      • Anonymous

iphone = crap and overrated, G1 was better
ipad = bigger ipod touch, we have seen it before!

      • Anonymous

not an apple fan, but if apple never ever released an iphone back in 2007, there probably wouldnt even be competitive smartphones pushing what we can do with them, RIM would still be #1 pushing outdated stuff, and tablets would have never happen. would apps even exist.

        calladito te miras mas bonito

      • Average Android Dude

Really? The G1 was better? All the problems Android 1.5 and 1.6 had? Even on a design point of view the  G1 looked like a Fischer Price toy. I was pissed that the G1 was Google’s first Android phone.  I am no iPhone owner but the first gen iPhone was a very nice looking phone. I know you hate the iPhone but come on you have to give credit where credit is due.  It took 5 manufacturers to outsell an iPhone.  And yes Samsung copied off the iPhone’s design.  All Apple is doing is making Samsung spend money on lawyers.  And in the end it will setting cause Apple is looking for a better price on their components.  So everyone can hate the iPhone one but you have to be impressed by one company’s ability to gain customers.  From the ipod to the iPhone now the iPad.  Love him or hate him, Steve Jobs knows how to gain customers.  He knows what the average customer wants.  Not really cares about techies, yes I consider myself a techie.  Simplicity always wins.  When something is simple to use like the iPhone, iPod and iPad, customers will buy it.

Agreed on forgetting them. The first patent granted for”tablets” was in 1888 to be exact. Not a typo. First working tablet debuted in the 50′s by a guy named tom dimond

      • Anonymous

What a moronic post. Were tablets in the late 90s and 2000s the same as tablets today in any remote sense?

Maybe you should look up the word “innovate” as opposed to “invent”.

If you don’t believe Apple innovated and changed the game with the iPhone and iPad, you’re wrong. Even their competitors will admit as such.

I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent.com

I disagree.  Apple is a hardware company as much as they are a software company.  History will repeat itself.  Look at Microsoft vs Apple.  Microsoft being a software company was able to distribute their platform across multiple hardware manufacturers.  Apple is exclusive to Apple.  Last time I checked Bill Gates was still the richest man in the world and nearly every business is reliant on Microsoft.  This will undoubtedly apply to the smartphone industry as well.  Before you go in and start replying with cheap shots about quality, let me go ahead and answer that for you. Its an irrelevant argument that has zero bearing on total sales volume.  True story.

Can you imagine the world with only the iphone and no one else? That’s how apple wants it. It would be hell on earth to have just the icrap for a phone and they don’t even make phone calls!

so samsung screwed itself when they filed to see the upcoming apple devices. this all just needs to be dropped.

even as an iphone user, this whole suing stuff is either to over blogged or to nitpicky on apples part, you best win apple because if you don’t, you’ll look like a douche.

I love how fandroids complain about all the Apple articles and yet they read and comment on every single one. It’s like you’re constantly trying to convince yourself that android is better. Guess what the sequel is never better than the original and android is playing second fiddle to iOS.

APPLE just mad cause they say Samsung and every body copies.their iPhone. To me i think QPPLE just scared of Samsung and their success. This is why I hate APPLE just because they invent something first they can sue whom ever they want. The only one that’s making money is their lawyers.
