iTunes App Store now home to more than 100,000 iPad apps

Software

The iTunes App Store is now home to more than 100,000 iPad applications. According to MacStories, Apple and its developers set a record by hitting that milestone just 453 days after the iPad made its debut on April 13th of last year. That’s approximately four months after Apple hit the the 75,000 iPad app mark in March, too. The most popular paid iPad Apps of last year included Pages, GoodReader for iPad, Numbers, Angry Birds HD, Keynote, and more. That list isn’t very different today. At the time this article went to press, Video Time Machine, Angry Birds Seasons HD, Pages, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and Angry Birds HD were at the top of the paid apps list.

“Unless” you meant “useless” your commet is senseless. And otherwise it’s just humorless.

      Let’s level the playing field…

How many Android apps are nothing more than wallpaper and ringtones?

Yet… Andy Rubin gets on Twitter to say “Android has 200,000 apps”

But… he doesn’t dare say how many tablet apps are on Android…

This article is about quantity of apps and NOT quality. Yes there’s a lot of crap, useless and duplicate apps on A-Market but it’s the same exact picture on iTunes(I have both Android and iOS devices.) Yes AppL is leading in quantity of apps and they will continue to do so in future. “So what?!” As long as people are happy with what they got and what they can download to their smartphones/tables, it’s all good.

No shit… I was replying to someone else.

Go read the original comment… oh wait, I’ll just tell you what he said:

“Correction, app store now home to 95000 unless ipad apps”

        Get it now?

The only issue with your statement is that (though subjective) most would agree that the App Store has both higher quantity *and* quality apps than the Android Market.

That’s easy to explain; A lot more money is made on the App Store, so devs put more effort in.

How many synths can one Hipster use?!?!

It is nice to read that Apple has 100,000 iPad Apps but same with iPod/iPhone apps… probably only less than 10% are useful.

Yet that’s still thousands of times more useful apps than on an Android tablet. What’s your point exactly?

This would normally be the part where I’d smugly point out that on Android, there isn’t the need to make the distinction between phone and tablet app due to the scalability of apps, and the functions that allow apps to change how they display based on the type of device they’re on….

…..but really, the tablet situation is still pretty bleak on Android. Sure, it’s unclear if apps like Movies count towards whatever Android tablet app count there is, and some apps like Comicly still work wonderfully even without a tablet-specific UI…..but….there’s still so many like Twitter, Facebook, and oh yeah, Google+ that haven’t updated with at least some kind of enhancements. Reddit, Google Reader, Skype, Astro, IMDb….there’s still plenty that needs doing here.

So, good on you Apple. *tips hat*

I see the old, tired “90% are useless argument” repeated several times here.  Is that all you got?   And you think the Android market has a better percentage of usable apps?

I look at the day to day, week to week patterns.  For every half dozen game that come out for both iPhone and iPad I see maybe one for the Android.  Where is Street Fighter IV Volt? Where is Sonic Racing, 1-Bit Ninja, World of Goo, NBA Jam, #Swocery, etc, etc, etc.

And it isn’t all about games.  Where is iMuscle, Garage Band, Flipboard?

It is about quality. I will take the 10,000 quality apps that account for 10% of that 100,000 ipad apps versus what?  A couple hundred compatible, “decent” apps that work on the Android tablet without error?  And I am being generous.  Again, the key word is quality and not quantity as others so eloquently put it here.

When you max out your 16/32 gig Android tablet with games and apps then you can smack talk about how great the Android market is.  And try it without those 1gig Gameloft games.  That would be cheating.

Got to remember this: You cant change things like your keyboard, and other interface features like you can on android. A lot of the good android apps offer customization.

Without customization, and over 100,000 apps for the Apple App Store, theres certainly a LOT of crap. Yes there are lots of GOOD apps too. I was playing with my friends iPad 2 and searched for hunting games and found like, 70. However, the one I have on my Xoom was on the App Store and was better than the others, so why should I care how many hunting game apps the App Store has when the Market has the best of their kinds?

Well that was certainly an exhaustive case study! /sarcasm

Android has like, 72 apps specifically for tablet and everyone of them is unique and usefull. But there are TONS of apps that work very well on the tablet that were made for the phones.

This is pretty good to hear cause for those you own or have use the device know that most free apps on the iPads are pretty good. Those you haven’t t use one really don’t know what they’re missing, at first i too thought it was just a giant iPod touch. Apps for the iPad are totally different that apps for the iPhone, even though you can still use the iphone apps on it. Been a iphone user since day one and trade my phone 2 weeks ago for a contract free iPad 2
