iPhone 5, iPad 3 parts suppliers get ready for lift-off

mobile

Taiwan-based component suppliers are beginning to prepare materials that will be assembled to build Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad 3 devices, DigiTimes reports. The report goes on to state that Apple will unveil its fifth-generation smartphone and third-generation tablet in September ahead of launches in October. Details on the devices were scarce in the report, though it was mentioned that Apple’s next iPad may be even thinner and lighter than the current iPad 2 model, and it may also include a 250dpi display. DigiTimes cites anonymous industry sources in claiming that Apple intends to begin low-volume production of the iPhone 5 in August, and production will then ramp up in September. IPhone supply volume is expected to total 24-25 million units in the third quarter, 6-7 million of which will be the new iPhone 5 model. Total iPhone volume for 2011 is expected to reach 85 million, and DigiTimes says iPad volume may break the 40 million-unit mark.

Hopefully iPhone 5 has a fix so that the App Drawer doesn’t permanently stay stuck open.

What?..  oh..  it’s supposed to look like that?..     …weird.

    • Anonymous

What you call an App Drawer, I call a Dock. And I’m not sure why you’d want it gone…

      • Steel

Umm…   nobody wants the Dock to disappear; Android fans just tend to prefer that only selected apps are available on the homescreen, instead of every last one of them.

The joke, which I thought was evident and pretty widespread these days, is that an iPhone home screen looks like you’ve got the App Drawer open on an Android device full-time, preventing useful information like widgets and such.

      • http://twitter.com/cdoruff Collin Doruff

I used to have a background of Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, and i arranged my home screens so i could always see her darling face.

My iPod Touch cant do that.

I agree Superboy…  Apple has NO idea on how to create a useful user interface.  Now Google, on the other hand, is the master of creating amazing UI’s.  NO ONE can do UI like Google!

      • Anonymous

Android would be a twinkle in your daddy’s balls if it wasn’t for iOS. True statement.

      • Andrew Peron

haha I just replied to another one of your troll-tastic tirades on another article. You, sir, have to be the least tactful troll I have ever come across on the internet. I mean come on, you don’t even try. your troll-flavored arguments are so predictable and tired that it’s not even worth getting upset about! No one can do UI like google? Come on bro. Android is awesome, I’ve loved all the android devices I’ve owned, but it’s not that great. Considering we’re comparing Apple, a computer company with a 30+ year pedigree in computer software and hardware, to Google, a 13 year old company who specializes in web search and advertising, I think I’m going to put my money on Apple.
P.S. the fact that you have created a cute little nickname for your sad troll-meeting group, and the fact that said nickname is ‘Goofan’, is one of the most laughable things I have ever heard. ‘Goofan’? Seriously, that name is better suited to a bukkake video.

You should probably go back to the drawing board, friend.

      • Steven Borweiler

LOL GOOFAN? that has to be the gayest thing I have ever heard…

I’ll be a sad monkey if iPad 3 comes out this year, I finally dropped some cash on a iPad and I want it to be ‘magical’ for at least a year. :)

it’s a big downfall of owning an apple device

Apple’s product cycles are usually longer than most competitors…

My guess is that Apple is starting to feel the heat.

      • Anonymous

How many times has that Android device you just purchased gotten one-upped or replaced by a new version in a 3-month span?

In the tech world, Apple’s normal 12-month product cycle is pretty long.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZX7I3VN423YBFEWTEQOQ5JR5ME Retro

        Nope,

I’ve been waiting for a worthy upgrade to my BB for 2 years.

        Please God.

Let BB release at least one worthy device this year :-/

      • numetheus

Its a big downfall of going Android. You can buy a device and something better will be out next month. Nothing stays magical on the Android side.

iPhone owners dont get to have that magical experience.

      • numetheus

Actually iPhone had a great capability to be customized if it is jailbroken. To me, Android is just as unusable unless it is rooted. Yes … my Inspire 4G is rooted with a custom ROM.

You sad? Think about the kid that traded a kidney for the iPad2.

      • http://twitter.com/cdoruff Collin Doruff

He’s got another kidney, hes got an iPad 3 then.

    • Eric Walker

Big deal….If your iPad continues to do what it was made to do, what’s the problem?  So you could have held out for an iPad 3.  Just wait until the iPad 4 or 5 to upgrade then.

  • serpentor

Looks like we will be getting iPad 3 this year after all. I would’ve said this is a bogus tumor but someone from Apple would be denying this if it were untrue, because now you’ll have people holding off on iPad 2 for a 3.

What I really wanna know is reasoning for a new iPad.

    • Anonymous

It’s a rumor. How is it different than any other rumor?

      • serpentor

Because there’s not usually rumors about a new product coming out 6 months after an old product comes out.

    • Anonymous

Probably because the first two are true iJunk.
Let’s pray Apple’s hardware finally catches up to Android devices.

My robotic fingers will be crossed.

Yeah because people are scooping up android tablets like fucking crazy…sigh.

      • numetheus

Last I heard iPad tablets are killing Android ones. When manufacturers start talking about how they are better than iPad, that is a clear sign of who sets the bar. It’s Android tablets trying to catch up with iPad, not the other way around. And … While I do agree my Android phone kills any iPhone, Android apps suck in comparison.

      • http://twitter.com/cdoruff Collin Doruff

Yeah the iPad 2 is great because of the app selection. But why would I want an iPad with my android phone? My Xoom and DX2 get along perfectly.

      • numetheus

To be honest, the only iPad we have is kept by my two kids. My iPad was sold a while back and was waiting for a good Android tablet. I may end up getting the new Galaxy Tab.

From what I remembered it was tiles in the middle but bigger stuff on the
bottom. Like a giant status bar. But at one point it was a big window and u
could swipe left or right and it would scroll between whatever open apps u
had going. Was nice and fluid when I was using it but not very intuitive.
The gestures would take getting used to. Definitely it needs a full week to
give it a good test run. I just didn’t want to bother cuzz it was obvious I
would never get one with all the missing features and apps. Etc.

      4. Cars
      5. Space Stations

That’s what we need man! Not apple crap!  You tell him PAPITO!

I really don’t think Apple will launch an iPad 3 in September.  5 months separation between product refreshes? People will sue… especially considering how limited the retail supply of iPad 2 was.  The iPhone 5 however, I expect to see.

    • Anonymous

Sue?  Really?  What would the complaint be?

      • Anonymous

Seriously?  You think people need legit reasons to sue anymore?  Just the threat of legal action results in some kind of response, especially from Apple.  Remember when they dropped the price of the iPhone?  People complained enough to get a $100 credit…

Ipad 3 in 2011, not gonna happen.

The only time I would abandon the iPhone is only when Apple goes down.  Do not see that in the near or distant future.  I’ll take an iPhone 6 when my due date is up.  Love my iPhone 4.  Better lookin’ apps, and speed and retina crisp display.  Thanks Apple!  Apple makes everything better.

  • Anonymous

The only reason Apple would launch another iPad if it was to include LTE support, so perhaps we will see a Verizon iPad 2 redux with LTE. It will not be an iPad 3 not a chance in hell. I will sell my iPad 2 32GB Wifi for a LTE iPad 2 Redux if VZW has LTE here by then.

  • FutureMedia

I doubt a new iPad 3 will go on sale until next March. I would welcome it if it does come early and buy the top model just as I did the first 2. I was going to skip this iPhone because I can’t get it without a $200 penalty from AT&T until Christmas Day. But if it’s got a 4 inch screen and 64GB storage, I may get it then. On the other hand, getting an early iPad 3 might be enough for me to skip the iPhone 5. But who knows, I’m such a fanboy I may want the iPhone 5 because of the better camera especially if it shoots 1080p. But I guess that’s a long shot. Resistance is futile. Must have newest iDevices…
