Apple pushes OS X Lion GM out to developers

Breaking

Apple on Friday seeded the Gold Master build of its OS X 10.7 Lion operating system to developers. The build number is 11A511, and the download is available immediately on Apple’s developer site. Barring the discovery of any major issues, the Gold Master code is likely to be unchanged in the release version of Lion, which will launch to the public later this month. Apple announced recently that OS X Lion will be distributed via the Mac App Store rather than using physical media discs, and it will cost just $29.

Excellent. I’ve been using a DP for awhile now and it already seems *very* solid. With multitouch, it’s amazing.

Hard to believe theyre only going to charge 30 dollars. Doesnt feel like youre really upgrading to a new operating system with such a cheep price.

All kiddin’ aside though, and that price with all your personal macs included.

      Back in character

I wouldn’t touch that crap with a long pole!

Then why do people pay SO much for a Mac computer? I know that when I buy a PC, i know the price of all the hardware, and the operating system. Macs have similar hardware but are always so much more!

If I was a Mac user (which I can’t be because I am a Goofan (aka Apple Hater)) I would say because of the whole “experience”, which windows can’t provide (at least that is what all the fanboys tell me, I am no fanboy :-)  I, and most goofans (aka apple haters) can build better machines and OS’ in our mom’s basements.

Throw in the cost of 2 Windows upgrades (about $150 for the basic, feature limited version) and you’ve raised the price of your computer to be on par with a Mac. The cost of the OS and future upgrades is built-in/subsidized in the hardware purchase price. When you combine that with ease of use, the extra cost feels slightly more justified.

Still expensive, but there is more value built-in to the price than you might think.

Snow leopard was the same $29 price tag

But that wasn’t as big of an upgrade.

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING compared to Google Chrome and Android.  These OS’ are 100-200 more powerful than Mac OSX will EVER be!  I have NEVER EVER seen that OS and I don’t want to, because I know it’s garbage.  A high school student can build a better OS.

I agree 100%. DROID OS and CHROME OS are the absolutely pinnacle of OS potential in both of their respective fields. Apple is hopeless.

If a High School Student could do it, why has it yet to be done?  Do you actually have a clue? Or are the cement walls in your mommies basement to thick for your tine foil hat to get reception?

Been using the 4th Developer Preview on my iMac. Just feels like amazing, felt solid and stable. I’ve been using Lion as my primary set up, went back and forth with Snow and Lion for music and what not. I am excited to try this out!
