Sure it is. You don’t even have to hack Facebook to destroy people’s privacy — it’s all there for the employees to take at their will.

That’s only if you use your real name on FB. Then it’s your own fault.

When was jailbreaking about destroying privacy? It was about reclaiming the rights to the computing power of your own damn property.
Way to go Hotz. Glad to hear his skills are paying off better now.

So how can we trust Facebook with our private information if they hire people that clearly have no sense of right or wrong? Just his rap alone makes me want to cancel my account.

This just sends the wrong message to hackers.

If you knew how many online resources employed “hackers” you’d never use the internet again.

I’d have to say your right on this point. I never really thought of it that way.

What do you mean right or wrong? He only installed software on a device he owned. What, are people not allowed to do what they want with something they OWN.  Its not like he “leased” it from sony

Actually he released the PS3 source code publicly, which is asking for a lawsuit. I think Geohot has the right to do whatever he wants with his equipment, but let’s be realistic about why he’s in the hot seat.

      • http://www.twitter.com/hokes Brendan

Actually he released his own improved source-code publicly that people could run on their ps3. Sony just doesn’t enjoy getting one-upped.

Hacking the PS3 and Jailbreaking an iPhone doesn’t make him a black hat hacker.  There is ethical hacking, and hackers who hack things to improve upon them, not to steal data and information.

PS:  Since when could you ever trust Facebook with your private information?

There is nothing wrong with hacking a device that you own in order to get back functionality that was sold to you then taken away. You sir have no idea what you are talking about.

    Facebook sucks.

    • Chachtastic1

Agreed. Only tweens and parents are on Facebook. Once it left the college scene, it became as uncool as Pokemon…

      • http://www.twitter.com/hokes Brendan

So what you mean is that it’s really really cool. Just like Pokemon?

  • IPwn

Don’t be ignorant. Facebook has always been about going against the “the norm” and hasn’t always employed the best business practices. Don’t act like this is something radical.

This old news. BGR always reports everything late.

Hopefully Zuckerberg won’t steal his hacking ideas. =p

I figured somewhere like Cisco would benefit more from employing him, but I’m glad someone picked him up.

  • Booboolala2000

Great, so now Facebook can steal your data without your permission.

    • Jorge

You gave Facebook permission to do whatever they like with your data the day you signed up.  Nothing for them to steal.

    • http://profiles.google.com/victorythagr8 victor nash

you do realize he never steal any info. he was just the guy who first jail break the iphone, psp and ps3.

  • Getsa_harly

i’m very glad to hear that

You know the world is coming to an end when criminals are getting jobs and honest people are being laid off.

    • http://www.twitter.com/hokes Brendan

I still am shocked people took Sony’s side in this. Are you fucking kidding me?
