iCloud services, including ‘iCloud Mail,’ will be accessible on the Web

mobile

According to Apple’s new MobileMe transition FAQ page, users will be able to access their iCloud services from the web. Specifically, the site says:

Will I be able to access iCloud services on the web?

Yes. Web access to iCloud Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Find My iPhone will be available at icloud.com this fall.

The FAQ also details some other issues that MobileMe users may be concerned about as their accounts are moved to iCloud. Apple says that photos, apps, music, and books do not count against the 5GB of free storage that comes with iCloud, and users will be able to buy more at a later time. It’s unclear how much additional space will cost, but Apple says it will explain more in the fall. As you’re likely aware, iCloud was announced during WWDC as a replacement for MobileMe. It will automatically store content across all of your devices and keep your mail, contacts, and calendar in sync across all devices. Users will simply need to sign into a new device to pull in all of their settings, photos, and more.

This reads to me like a big suck it Topolski. I’m jus’ sayin.

Why is this a big deal? Really? Not to give free advertising to anyone but users of Google’s services and Android have had this already since the G1.

Oh wait, it’s Apple, that’s why its a big deal.
Oh, and hasn’t Microsoft done this already too??

    Jus’ sayin….

    • Flintchesthair

Your right! Why would a huge group of people getting a major upgrade for their chosen device be a big deal?

      Your an idiot

      Jus’ sayin……

This isn’t “news”, it’s more of a clarification as to whether iCloud would lose web-access, which MobileMe has had (and its predecessor before that). The answer is no, it won’t, at least not for all features.

I was skeptical about this at first, but BGR is definitely the new Gizmodo.

This is news because people like to copy apple.

LOL always entertaining iNorm – keep up the good work – props to ya!

OMG!! This is awesome! My mail, contacts, and calendar all on the web!?!?

Well it would be pretty frickin’ retarded to have a service called icloud and to NOT have it all on the web

Time to abolish the r-word. R-word dot org.

      • Not_A_Retard

        STFU Retard.

That, on the other hand, would be an offensive use of the word. Context is everything.

      • Anonymous

In the context, I would say his use of “retarded” was correct and should not be offensive to anyone who is not an overly-sensitive politically-correct nazi. The lack of web access for a cloud service would hinder and impede such a service. The “r-word” should only be offensive when used as an insult to another human. I don’t agree the medical term, when used properly, should be offensive, as it’s only describing symptoms.

If they made itunes an app for android, I might get it. But kinda laughable it took this long for them to get it. Android has been cloud storing for years. Data useage will kill many.

    • Colin

Apple offering cloud storage is not new, I’ve been using Apple’s online storage service since 2000, two years prior to the subscription-based .mac service and eight years prior to the rename as MobileMe. By comparison Google’s gmail service didn’t surface until 2004, and Google Docs till 2007.

    • keymaker

I might be wrong but Apple has been offering cloud storage for years, way before anyone.

      • Booboolala2000

Carification. I meant cloud syncing. Requiring no plug ins for synching. Yes I know cloud storage has been on both for the same time.

      • Anonymous

Cloud syncing has also been available on iOS for quite some time, just not free. Android does have some nice things over iOS but things like find my Droid are just dumb and stupid the way they work.

  • keymaker

Alright bullshit aside, anyone knows if you need a iDevice to get a iCloud account?

    • LemonadeJoe

You don’t need an Apple device for iCloud, you can use it on your PC too.

    • Booboolala2000

Thinking the same thing. I have my MacBook Pro and was wondering if they were going to offer it soley for that platform. Don’t Need it, but it could tempt me down the road in my phone purchasing. No guarantee

iCloud Mail.  That almost sounds as bad as Windows Live Hotmail.  The “i” branding is getting pretty bad.

  • http://www.sk1wbw.wordpress.com Wayne Williams

Will this be something similar to an Exchange account?  I use both Windows and Mac and would love to switch everything over to an Apple email account.

Wow! Cloud services accessible from the Web. Is it simply “revolutionary” or does it qualify as “magical”?

    • Anonymous

The point was it will remain accessible on the web, like MobileMe. Prior to this report, many felt (based on Apple’s announcement) that iCloud would not have that feature.

  • Supermatin73

Kinda does what Android does across my tablet and smartphone….all Gmail calendar contacts sync across devices…

    • Anonymous

except you have to use crappy gmail. enjoy the ads and storage limit.

      • Anonymous

Gmail storage limit is 7.5GB. iCloud mail storage limit is 5GB and this includes not just mail but the documents too. GMail works on all platforms. iCloud? We’ll see.

      • Anonymous

        enjoy the ads.

    • Anonymous

I believe you can do that with Gmail across iOS devices as well.

We use Gmail at work, but I can’t say I’m in love with it. It works, but that’s about it.

This is fantastic… This is a great feature implemented by Apple using the weapon named iCloud.

  • Kh

Isn’t the title of this article an oxymoron? A cloud service accessible on the web, naw… really? I thought that was implied…
