Samsung Galaxy S II set to outsell Motorola DROID BIONIC, study finds [infographic]

There are countless methods research firms use in an attempt to amass useful data for their analyses, and perhaps one of the most underutilized sources of sentiment at this point in time is social chatter. Several progressive firms have emerged recently, however, and they see the value in scouring the social web for freely-available data, and that data can be extremely valuable to researchers and businesses alike. Case in point: using online social mentions and opinion between April 1st and June 21st as a gauge, social media listening firm Mashwork has determined that the Samsung Galaxy S II is the more highly anticipated upcoming Android superphone compared to the Motorola DROID BIONIC. Data from 14,838 users across Facebook, Twitter and other social networking services shows that 68% of prospective buyers are interested in purchasing the Galaxy S II while 32% are interested in the DROID BIONIC. More specifically, 39% of of the unsolicited opinions gathered stated that they will purchase the Galaxy S II and 29% expressed interest in buying the phone. Meanwhile, 19% said they would be purchasing the DROID BIONIC and 13% simply expressed interest. In terms of trends, interest in the Galaxy S II is on the rise leading up to the smartphone’s launch while interest in the DROID BIONIC has decreased over the past two months. Mashwork’s infographic detailing social opinions on the two phones follows below.

It just might be because the bionic keeps getting pushed back. & the Samsung hasn’t had that chance yet To get pushed back 3+ times.

I will pay attention to this article when these phones have actual release dates…

The Galaxy S II is already out in multiple countries.

Well this is just a pointless survey basically, these phones are not out yet for people to buy.  When these phones are out for a few month why dont they check back with actual sales figures.

I’d like to submit an alternative poll to this blog post.

Which will sell more? A burger from McDonalds…or a burger from A&W?

Note: There are over 20k McDonalds in America…compared to 890 A&W’s.

Yes, Verizon is a large company…but almost every phone that is not a “game changing” phone (aka the first “droid” to use Verizon as an example) will be outsold by a phone that will be available from almost every carrier in America. That’s just nature at work! Most users will be existing customers. Few will create new service just for this phone knowing that another phone will also have similar capabilities!

so basically what you are saying is that a device that has recently been the source of several reviews in the flesh is receiving far more attention that a device announced over 6 months ago, that has been delayed so badly to the point that even the pone’s manufacturer and the carrier it’s to be released on refuse to even mention it in hushed whispers …. ummmmm Duh?

Have to love marketing majors ….

I’d love to help prove the study correct, if only the GS2 would actually release in the US!

  • Anonymous

I’d hope the GSII would outsell the bionic. It’ll be on 4 carriers as opposed to the bionics 1

I think I’m gonna call FOUL on the method. If the social sites scoured have trolls ( nah, never happen ), the results would probably be skewed. Or maybe, if the method scraped this particular blog, how many iPhones (ding, +1 result for the scaper ) would be counted?
    Or, maybe not, who knows…?

Stop publishing stories of android phones competing against each other. Android only competes with the iPhone, not against one another.

  • Eric

Anything made by Samsung is complete garbage PERIOD.

    • ha

actually anything made by Samsung is typically electronic

  • BoyRetard

You can’t honestly think that this is a fair comparison! The Galaxy S2 will be on multiple carriers and the Bionic will be on one. Of course more people will be interested in the S2! If the Bionic was on all carriers then it would be a fair fight. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are both going to be awesome devices, but try a fair comparison! How about only asking this question to only Verizon customers, THAT would be fair. Otherwise, this data is incredibly skewed.

the only people around where i live that have motorola phones are dumb rednecks that couldn’t figure out how to work their old motorola walkie talkies in the first place. motorola is nothing but hype.

  • ha

it is sad how mindless these apple kids are.

  • Ghostshadow

MOTOROLA BIONIC is better and have a original design

Please make the verizon version a world phone

  • Johnathan

this is kinda pointless. the droid bionic is a verizon exclusive – of course its got less chatter…

  • Rodriguez623

Sgs deuce here for sure! Can’t wait.bionic would of been better if it wasn’t motorola ….imop

  • JustMe

Of course Motorola didn’t win that. They make terrible phones that don’t hold up well. I’m even waiting on the day the Galaxy S2 lands so I can ditch my Moto.

I didn’t realize until now how this comment area is so full of f#)$*ing tools.   Holy crap, who let all the 12 year old Android kids out of their parents basement.. is it time to clean grandma’s couch or something?

Wow, little boys, settle down… your uncle will be home to play D&D and ride the pony soon, no need to get all stupid hostile on people who buy real phones.

  • David

Wow, look at the trending that Mashwork put together.  Really shows the whole story.   Obviously all Android phones are up against the Apple Monolith, but each has it’s good points and bad.   Great job presenting the data!

  • http://profiles.google.com/kedmond Kazem Edmond

Isn’t there more hype regarding the S2 simply because it’s actually been released?  No one is completely sure what the Bionic will actually look like ever since Motorola said that it was heading “back to the drawing board”.  Or am I missing something here…
