Apple releases iOS 5 beta 2 [updated]

You heard that right. Apple’s just unleashed iOS 5 beta 2 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch units — for developers only, of course. We’re in the processing of upgrading, and we’ll let you know what we find. You guys do the same, alright?

  • With iTunes 10.5 beta 2, and iOS 5 beta 2, wireless iTunes sync now works.
  • Notifications on the lockscreen are redone — they’re much, much bigger for a single alert, then shows in list view for multiple alerts.
  • iMessage only works with iOS beta 2 both ways, but it’s super fast now. We’re guessing Apple changed the servers they used for this.

      OMG!!
      ! I just downloaded the new beta and it bricked my iPhone. But I don’t care! Cause all that matters is I have iOS 5 B2 – the greatest OS in the world, i mean.. Notifications!!?! Apple definitely invented that, Android just copied. And Anyone who says that Apple was late to the game MMS messaging just doesnt understand. Apple had to perfect it or else it would be like everyother phone in the world. But its an MMS from an iPhone and it makes everything better. Duh. Everyone else copied Apple and are cheap imitations.

    well i just tested one portion of it the software update part on the phone and that doesnt work lol

        it is only in the very beginning once you restore your phone. I saw it once and i looked like i just installed snow leopard.

    Anyone know if you can actually update from beta 1 to beta 2, or if you have to restore?

    Restoring my iphone to iOS 5 beta 2 and it just hangs in restore mode. Blank screen (not responsive) and Xcode says ‘waiting for device’
    Any ideas?

      Had the same problem.  After restore phone looks completely dead.  Eventually quit XCode. Started iTunes and could restore to 4.3.3.
      Tried again with same result.  Restore iOS5 B1 which worked fine.  Tried iOS5 B2 and again dead phone.  Now restored back to 4.3.3 using iTunes.  Will wait and see if this is a general problem.

    its really awasome. @Andrew, I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX.
