Apple files new patent suit against Samsung

Legal

Apple on Friday filed a new patent infringement lawsuit in South Korea alleging that multiple Samsung products are infringing its patents. “It is no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging,” an Apple spokesperson said regarding case. The move is the latest in an ongoing legal battle in which each company claims the other is making unlawful use of protected IP. Apple struck first back in April when the Cupertino-based technology giant sued Samsung, claim it copied “Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.” Samsung responded just one week later by filing countersuits in South Korea, Japan and Germany, and then in the U.S. as well. Both companies are thought to have grounds for legal action, but their close relationship stands to take a hit as a result of the feud; Apple is currently Samsung’s largest buyer of LCD components.

This Galaxy S2 looks way better than any iphone out and that will come out. I think that is why apple is running scared. Samsung has better display’s and give apple scrap parts

Anyone with half of a brain can see that the Galaxy S line of phone and touchwiz deliberately mimic the iPhone and iOS(Cisco should sue for the use of the iOS acronym).  But this has only to do with Samsung and their UI layover.  There isn’t a single thing about an HTC, Moto, Dell or LG phone that remotely resemble anything that Apple may have come up with beside the full touch screen candy bar form factor.  But wth else are people supposed to model the phone as? An oval?  A star? Triangle? Square?

Samsung definitely needs to take it in the rear for mimicking the UI and general design of the phone so closely, but anything else is completely different (HTC, Moto, LG, Dell) including Vanilla Android and Apple will REALLY begin to get ridiculous with these lawsuits if they continue to go after the other Android manufacturers after the suit against Samsung who are the only obvious offender of any infringement.

Patent filings in the US are a joke and can be so broad it’s pretty ridiculous how many get approved with no real defined concept or idea and needs an overhaul.

Doesn’t matter…the Samsung Galaxy S II is the ‘next’ phone that sets a completely new bar.

Never been much of a fan of samsung anything, but when I first saw this phone my first reaction was “daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn”.  I will be buying one the second it drops to verizon (evil company, but good service).

if they’re just sueing the ui i would understand and say they have a pretty good point. but they’re sueing at hardware too and have you looked at the list of handsets they are claiming to mimic the iphone? ie: replenish? are you kidding me? would would ever confuse that for an iphone? i have nothing against iphone and even considered getting one but besides the nice screen, nothing made me want to have it.

Does anyone else here own a galaxy and a 3GS? They look slightly similar, not as similar as flat screen tv’s do or dishwashers but slightly similar. When you turn them on there is no confusing them in any way. The phone icon is as mentioned before about as generic as the play icon on a remote control but otherwise they are clearly as different as two devices that do similar things can be. Apple is seemingly jealous of any other smart phone and it makes them seem petty.
Imagine the scenario “hey guys check out my new apple iPhone, it’s great!” “That’s not an iPhone you idiot, it’s a Samsung galaxy” “aw shit, I feel like a douche”
Does anyone think this has happened?
