HTC’s ChaCha Facebook phone coming to AT&T as the HTC Status

Exclusive

BGR has exclusively confirmed with a trusted source that HTC’s ChaCha, the company’s first device with dedicated Facebook button and deep Facebook integration, will be launching on AT&T in the coming weeks. According to our source, the launch could take place as soon as one week from now. Following some troubles HTC has had with the device’s name, the QWERTY-equipped Facebook phone will land on AT&T as the HTC Status. Truth be told, anything would sound better than ChaCha to us. Additionally, we have separately confirmed with HTC that despite earlier reports to the contrary, the other handset with dedicated Facebook button — HTC’s Salsa — won’t be hitting AT&T in the near future, if at all.

Cha Cha brings back memories of a John Waters film, where a young Devine plays a disturbed teenager who doesn’t get her “Cha Cha Heels” for Christmas and sets off on a life of Crime.

This is going to be a massive seller in the UK, but maybe not as big as the Sensation but we will have to wait and see.  Looks very much like a BlackBerry though!

Or rip off Apple marketing and call it an iLike? :-)

how much deeper can the integration go than whats available already in leading smart phones??

I think it’s a lot more about “cheaper” than “deeper”.  This is for the feature phone market.

there are free android phones on the market i dont think you can get much cheaper than that.  i guess if you account monthly cost but im guessing the cost conscious would be on metro pcs or cricket with a android phone lol.  i just cant imagine this flying out of any store.  i think a windows 7 skin or android theme or integration into iOS would have served us all better but its probably that big fat check htc waved in order to get the facebook branding helped.

Why does AT&T feel they have to rename phones?  Only AT&T does this and I wish they’d stop.  Every other carrier just keeps the manufactures original name.

Just some of the AT&T phones that I’ve had as an example:
    Fuze = Touch Pro
    Tilt 2 = Touch Pro 2
    Inspire 4G = Desire HD

AT&T just stop doing this please!!!! AARRGHH!

      It’s called branding. Not uncommon.

    • KrisCamp

Why are you so upset by that? Not really a big deal Gus

Hey you think that’s bad you have the Desire HD and in the states they have like 4 different versions of that phone…
      Inspire
      Thunderbolt
      Evo
      Evo 3D

This has Kin written all over it unless the data plans are discounted. The $15, 200 MB plan on AT&T isn’t going to cut it for teens uploading and viewing facebook pictures all day.

Did Zuck approve of this ugly duckling? My wife would take a Pixi over this any day!

Good thing BGR is not writing papers for universities with a reference cited as “trusted source” other than the name of an actual source this report will be graded a big fat “F”. I think BGR is only posting this so they have readership from a juicy story they made up. You’ll surely won’t see this on sites like Bloomberg etc….

This is common in most journalism, as they do not wish to reveal their sources.

Not everything is supposed to be written like a scholarly paper.

Soon to be followed by a “Starbucks” phone: Just push the special, dedicated “Starbucks” button to be lead to the Starbucks closest to you.

    • Short Example

      Aka across the street

Not here, they all closed down; now you have to actually drive to find one.

The idea of a fully integrated social media phone is pretty neat though.  A design based around S.M. first and phone functions second would appeal to a lot of people.  Just so long as it’s not the Kin 1 or 2.

That looks like it might just work. Wow.

ChaCha is a company that answers TXTd questions (TXT your question to 242242) with a battery of human internet searchers.

How about a phone for sitting on the toilet? Or while I’m cooking? Or one for my left hand for when I’m brushing my teeth?

Sheesh, there are limits to bifurcation. This is a joke, right? A Facebook phone? Why not just call it an anti-privacy device?

sorry my facebook app doesnt do enough, now i need a phone with pure facebook intergration. Time to step back and think, facebook is getting lame.

And yet the iPhone with it’s Twitter integration is da bomb! LMAO!

  • Anonymous

Oh look a phone on AT&T that makes their Blackberry’s look state of the art.

    • http://profiles.google.com/david.e.crocker David Crocker

Um, really? Android, portrait QWERTY, solid build…..but stoopid Facebook button. I think it will sell like madcakes.

I kinda like it but seems like as soon as you want to do something besides messaging or fb on it, you will want a bigger screen, or something that’s not awkward to hold sideways.

At least it has an appropriate name.

At least it has an appropriate name. @Allen, I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, LiveCent. com
