HP TouchPad now available for pre-order

Tablets

Right on schedule, Hewlett-Packard’s first webOS-powered tablet is now available for pre-order. The HP TouchPad becomes available on July 1st but those who want to ensure they get their supersized webOS fix as soon as possible can pre-order the device through a number of different retailers. Best Buy and Amazon, among others, have the TouchPad available for pre-order at $499 for the 16GB model and $599 for the 32GB model, as expected. BGR took a hands-on look at the TouchPad when it was first unveiled back in February, and we were impressed. WebOS translates very well to a large form device, and the interoperability with HP’s upcoming Pre 3 smartphone is fantastic, though we still have no word on when HP might launch the Pre 3.

Wow… 20 reviews on Amazon and the thing hasn’t even been released yet. How is it one is able to review items that have yet to be officially made available? Odd. But no matter. I find the TouchPad interesting, but I shant even consider it until the Pre3 makes its presence known on Verizon. Whenever that will be…

there was a time, a long time ago….once upon a time when the touchpad was announced, i was actually excited. but now i am not. this tablet took its sweet time to get to the market and now you wonder: y would someone buy it as opposed to ipad or toshiba thrive? it’s neither the great toy that the ipad is, nor the great functional mobile device that the thrive is. no apps, no rear cam, no document editing, no cloud service at launch, sync with pre3 happens only when devices are at a close proximity to each other….pointless, overhyped touch to share, bing search engine and bing maps are the default…oh man…..poor WebOS. always has been and always will be cursed by small devices, poor management and slow execution. when windows 8 tablets rock the market, Leo Apotheker will either have to step down or pay HP the money he persuaded them to spend on buying palm. i will not buy this tablet. but man, i wish WebOs was on something as awesome as the thrive or the galaxy 10.1….

Apotheker didn’t buy Palm, that was a Hurd decision. But agree with all other statements. Never has such a beautiful pile of code been so mismanaged…..

I have to agree w/ someone’s comment regarding the marketing of this thing:  seeing a printer in the background doesn’t elicit feelings of the future and ease of use for me.

I have missed my sling box since moving to webOS.  You would have thought having Sling or Moonsoon would have been some one as well as Netflix to have at launch.  The launch is so close but still no word on partners for the device.
