Starbucks Android app launches for mobile payments

mobile

Are you Android users jealous of all of your friends using their iPhones to buy frappuccinos? Take a sigh of relief — on Wednesday Starbucks launched its Android application that will allow you to walk into one of 6,800 Starbucks or 1,000 Target locations and buy your choice of coffee without having to reach for your wallet. When you’ve made your selection, all you have to do is hold your phone up so that the barista can scan a special barcode presented on your phone’s screen. The best part? You can refill your Starbucks card directly from the app itself. It’s available for free in the Android Market now for devices running Android 2.1 or newer.

There was already a app in the market place that wasn’t official and even provided a widget. The official app just isn’t as good.

It’s called My Coffee Card, and it’s a tiny install compared to this ‘official’ Starbux app that weighs in at 11 M…and it IS better.

Stop complaining about the size of the app. 11MB is nothing.

My only negative thing about is no widget (thought not a huge deal breaker) and no install to SD.

As far as the third party app, it’s very good, however you won’t find me reloading my card via that app. Too risky these days.

” Are you Android users jealous of all of your friends using their iPhones to buy frappuccinos?”

Nope, I am not jealous of their burnt coffee and hipster jeans.

Iphone gets widgets late. Android gets apps way late.

I use my debit card for everything. You usually can’t even find me with cash. Why, exactly, is that fucked up?

A debit card is not a credit card…

Uhh. How else would you pay for coffee? Is there something I’m missing here?

What’s going on with the late news updates here lately? Every other tech blog announced this on Wednesday. Why even bother at this point?
Besides, the reviews are in and this app is horrible compared to the non-Starbucks one that was already on the market.
