Verizon’s free 4G LTE mobile hotspot offer extended through July 6th

mobile

Here’s some good news for DROID Charge, LG Revolution, and HTC ThunderBolt owners: BGR has independently confirmed with Verizon Wireless that the carrier is extending its free 4G LTE mobile hotspot offer on those devices from June 15th to July 6th. Verizon Wireless will issue a software update on July 6th that deactivates the free promotion. Users will then need to pay for the service, and Verizon says 4G phone owners do not qualify for the 1GB $20 monthly option. While the carrier hasn’t yet confirmed new hotspot pricing, the next tier data plan is the $35 3GB monthly hotspot data plan, so that may be the new requirement.

Screw Verizon… will never pay $35 for that. I’ll just get a MiFi from another carrier for less on month-to-month.

    • I got big balls

They’ll probably give you 2gb for $20 like they have on the iPhone.

This is going to turn into one of the biggest scams ever.

It’s 2GB for 20.00. 1GB for 20.00 is on the iPad and Tabs only. There is no higher Mobile HotSpot price. The MiFi has a 35.00 3GB plan.

You won’t find it less on month-to-month anywhere else for 3GB. Plus, they have it wrong as it is. Also, Verizon isn’t making you keep it.

Month-to-month (I almost never use it, so these work fine for my usage)
      Tmobile $10 – 100mb (7days)
      Virgin $10 – 100mb (10days)
      Virgin $20 – 500mb (1mo)

Dude you know you have had every iCrap on AT&T since 2007. You love it don’t hide it. Besides the Droid X² is just the Droid X 3G rehased

This feels like this is in response to the filing against them that they’re violating the terms they agreed to when they purchased this spectrum for LTE use.  They’re probably doing this until they figure out if they can continue to block tethering apps from the market and hinder our ability to tether freely.

The VZW hotspot feature is $20 a month for 2GB with every 1GB over being a additional $20. The above referenced $35 for 3GB is for the Tablet monthly pricing.

So what if you don’t install the update, is it free?

  • IPwn

On the iOS 5 beta for Verizon iPhone I can tether for free as well.  I am not sure why, but it has been working since I loaded iOS 5 onto my VZW iPhone.

    It’s $20 for 2gb, 1g for $20 and 3gb for $35 isn’t offered on phones.

why are people paying for data twice?

You are already paying for the data in your plan.

I simply use my unlocked Nexus S while overseas, turn on hotspot feature and use my iPad, macbook, etc.  No worries and no extra fees.

Again, why pay for the data twice?  Nothing like getting screwed by Big VZW.

Can’t you just jailbreak your phone ( in my case; The Thunderbolt) and use the hot spot feature for free? I already pay for unlimited data, I will not pay more for additional data  that I should be getting for free.

you can ‘root’ it, then use an awesome app called barnacle wifi tether.  works just like the mobile hotspot app… no wpa or wpa2 encryption, but tons more features.  wep is fine if you plan to use mac filtering, which the app supports.  i have 2 laptops i use that i tether to via this app, works a treat

that was a great read, thanks ghostbear1.  google is so crafty… bumpin the reserve price just to set rules into the 4g baseband, only to be outbid and only pay a small interest fee… so now ppl can use tethering apps on the google ‘android’ platform on verizon’s network!  verizon won’t just let us do it per say… but rooting will ;)

wish i had 4g coverage on LI out east.  if i lived in the city, I would download the largest torrent I could find onto my laptop, tethered to my phone!!  xD  500GB = $5,833 hahahahaha
