American Airlines offers Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets to first class passengers

mobile

American Airlines is starting to offer Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 units to its first class passengers as an entertainment option during several flights, Mashable is reporting. Apparently the tablet will be an option on flights between Los Angeles and New York, San Francisco and New York, Los Angeles and Miami, Boston and Los Angeles flights operated by 757s, and a few European and South American flights operated by American Airlines’ 767-300 aircraft. 6,000 tablets are being deployed in total, and American Airlines will offer passengers access to Wi-Fi during the trip. Hopefully AA at least loads the Tabs up with a few movies and some tunes, too.

Pointless. Won’t sway anyone. No one wants a crappy android tablet. True story.

Papinyc was thrown off an American airlines flight for manually servicing himself into a nausea bag. True story.

    Go away trolls

Unless BGR do something about these trolls more and more people will become uninterested in these blogs. Personally I am getting fed-up.
Used to love reading the comments for other peoples views now the comments sections are just a joke full of trolls

First the TSA rapes you then you are shoved in a giant metal tube upon which they now give you a glitchy POS ipad knockoff. Sweet!

What happened to you norm. You used to be cool.

icloud and the new iOS notifications bar really fucked up his mind. Can’t blame him though.

I have a Samsung 10.1 wifi. android market does not offer movie rentals…

Pilots in the cabin using their iPads to navigate: lol sucks for the passengers!

I think they still have to pay for Wi-Fi.
Also 1st Class guys always have better gadgets (Full laptop..own tablets) so it is kind of pointless.

    • sirpaul

You’re right. Why would you want a tablet that doesn’t even have your own files on it if it doesn’t even include wifi. I guess Samsung had to find a way to ditch unsold inventory.

American Airlines should focus on upgrading their POS Fleet, Jetblue is eating their lunch left and right in the US. AA has a good safety record but I think that they’re asking for trouble.

fair enough, but i’d rather be on a flight that wont crash over a nicer comfortable seat, unless the flight is over 6hrs, (most of mine are under 4) in which case go ahead and fall out of the sky dont give a shit.

thats cool.  I tried the 10.1 the other day and was very impressed

Business class passengers already own Playbooks or IPads.  If they offer a Samsung to their first class passengers they might as well server cheap wine.

Ipad = toy  Android = business

That’s how you treat your first-class passengers?

This place is getting out of hand. It used to be a place I could come to have reasonable, logical debates.
    What happened?

Trolls happened. Everyone is trying to outdo one another in how clever their comments are. Most things revolve around how creative one can be when attacking another poster based on opinions. BGR comments used to be a lot more interesting back in the day, but ever since it has been bought out, more people are visiting the website, and we are getting more and more garbage in the comments section.

Nowadays, we don`t have useful informative comments related to the product in the article, but rather mostly fanboy-related comments and insults related to sucking Steves man parts. Every Apple post contains comments about how BGR SUKSS because it SUKS STEVESS BALZZ (ie posts lots of Apple news)…and when Android news gets posted people start dissing that and then talking about how Apple is doing such a better job in noted market…

That`s the internet for ya! Engadget`s comment sections are not a whole lot better. At least on BGR, replies are still related to each other. On Engadget everyone is in some sort of get-post-closest-to-top-as-possible fest, where they reply to comments simply to `be on top`….

Lmao, anything to try to boost sales eh? People in first class already have iPads and iPad 2s, so why would they want a cheap knock off? To make a flight less enjoyable? I scoff…

Interesting… My last flight on AA first clas last week, showed 3 passengers with iPads, and 4 with Android tablets (2 Xooms, 2 Galaxy Tab 7″)  Oh well…

    • QNX Please

Sorry hipsters don’t fly, its too mainstream. Let alone a first class ticket to too expensive for all those would be artists and Starbucks barristas that own iPads.

Logical decision by AA. Samsung Tabs offer higher resolution than iPads and their wide screens are much better than iPads’s 4×3 ones for movie watching (which is what people do at flights). So stop whining about iPads. Passengers in economy class will get those.

I look forward to my upcoming MIA – LAX flight. These certainly sound nicer than the old Archos media players they used to have.

A tablet not worthy of being with the luggage. In first class? Why next? Hot naked women jogging with me?
