I love the idea of tablets being extensions of our phones. I picture walking in the door with my Pre 3, my Touchpad picks up on the fact that I am home by “talking” with my phone, I pick up my Touchpad for some email and browsing, and my calls/sms can be handled by my tablet so I don’t have to run and get my phone. Hopefully this integrated relationship will find it’s way to my iPhone 4 + iPad 2 because it surely makes my eyes wander over to the HP Pre3/Touchpad set up! Bravo!

It already exists in iOS 5. There is no ‘detecting’ that you are home though – all messages are synched between devices at all times (with iMessage). Pretty handy!

And with iCloud, all of your content is identical with all of your devices.

The only thing missing is taking calls, but I don’t want to hold a tablet up to my ear.

Not to nitpick but you’d use the external speaker.

The Full Court press is coming….

The integration with the phone looks pretty sick.

Why doesn’t apple do some of these cool things??  I don’t want to have to change my phone too when I’m thinking of buying  a tablet…

Why? In my own personal conjecture I don’t think Apple believes it would appeal to a large enough audience to deem worthwhile to spend the time and resources to develop.

Yeah, it’s cool to people like you and me who read BGR and other tech blogs, but we’re a small minority.

orly? Is that why Apple took 3 yrs to include copy and paste? or 4 years to have a notification system that doesn’t suck?

If webOS starts to gain traction, just watch how much iOS starts to borrow from webOS.

It doesn’t matter who was first, what only matters is who does it best.

iOS Android and WP7 … neither of them launched with cut and paste at launch

      • Anonymous

Copy/Paste is a bad example because when it was implemented, it was done in a very intuitive way and had near-universal praise.

      iMessage…

bah.  Its not made by apple so it sux right bgr?

    • ThatGuy

If you think bgr is so pro-Apple and it’s makes you so angry why bother coming here. This article has no mention of Apple at all.

As for the TouchPad, I think HP has a winner. This could easily be the 2nd best tablet behind the iPad.

Only reason Apple isn’t mentioned is because Todd wrote it.

Todd is mad sexy, I agree.

  • Digitaltouch

Very nice. Everything seems to Work smoothly. Like that it’s different.

Is it just me or were there a few instances of choppiness displayed in that video?

That’s my worry about the TouchPad; webOS was known for its “laggy” UI in earlier builds. The lack of applications and performance are what I will be paying attention to before I consider buying one.

Aside from that, I do like what’s been shown so far.

      • Anonymous

No android is known for it’s laggy os

    • The Mighty BK

      it was you

More boring stuff from HP. Whoever buys anything remotely related to HP.

    • sirpaul

HPs stock quote, profits, market share etc. say otherwise. Go back in your hole, Apple fanboy.

  • Element

Apple’s gonna steal Touch to Share in no time, don’t worry. :p

I’d rather a menu option (in the same menu as Print, Add Bookmark, etc) for a “Send to my iPhone”.

  • http://www.droiddoes.com/ iNorm

The Touchpad looks sick. Beats the pants off of DROID honeycomb 3.0 and iOS. The hardware looks smooth too. Selling XOOM now…..

  • Ktown8

Man, that’s not an iPad commercial, I don’t know what’s!?!

  • Anonymous

If devs starts creating apps for this baby, I may be switching in no time. It’s what I always wanted my iPad to be. Seriously.

  • BrocknessMonster

UI looks a little laggy in some spots. pretty big turn off in my opinion.

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ iNorm

I’m assuming you have a DROID tablet because you could spot lag that I couldn’t find.

      • Anonymous

Look @ 1:22. There is obvious lag just like on my Pre Plus. I really like Webos but it needs good hardware and I’m not convinced this is it……

I guess I’ll have to bust out $500 and go see for myself or try and demo one somewhere.

Wow!! This is good, really good.

Wow that makes a lot of sense dude

  • J. Williams

    Very nice.

This tablet is a winner. At launch it will be the second best tablet on the market.  Not bad HP not bad….

    Pre 3 please.

  • Fennetta

Anyone out there?  New user of the Touchpad, how do you mark, highlight a senence in a book I’m reading???/
