Apple Store employee moves to create union

An Apple Store employee in San Francisco named Cory Moll has moved to create a union for himself and other Apple Store workers, Reuters is reporting. Moll hopes that such a union would provide workers with increased wages, better benefits, and a backing against Apple’s “unfair practices.” “The core issues definitely involve compensation, pay, benefits,” Moll, a thirty-year old who currently makes $14 per hour, told Reuters. It could all be a pipe dream for now: “There’s a lot of hesitation to want to speak about it,” Moll said. “I don’t think there’s 50 percent (support) in any one store but as people talk about it, we could get close in a couple of stores,” he added. Moll would need the majority of a store’s employees to be on board in order to create a union.

Why the hell they need a union?. Whhen he gets paid more than everybody else. N APLLE sells theirbproducts like crazy. Its not like they cant get stocks like the big greedy executives.

I wish this guy luck.  There are plenty of middle class white workers out there are that are still lapping the supply-side koolaid.  There’s barely 50 percent because they skeered and don’t want to take chases and fight.

I hope he gets effing fired.  What a useless piece of $hit.  I’d GLADLY take 14 dollars an hour right now.

Agree that it will be interesting to watch Apple’s response on this.
I’m a long term Apple product fan.. BUT .
    - the Chinese manufacturing incident was pretty ugly
    - they handled the iPhone aerial thing well
    - so they don’t need anymore negative CSR.
    - are they treating their local employees fairly?
All very reasonable questions when you’re making great profits !

And you have to ask yourself if you are wiling to pay more ?

$14/hour is probably pretty good for being the tech equivalent of a fast food worker.  Should take your money and shut up before you get replaced by any other useless and skill-less person on the street looking for a job.

The nice thing about comment forums is that people without the faintest idea what they’re talking about get to have an opinion anyway. For instance, I could say that you are an idiot who can barely find a door to get out of the house in the morning. That’s probably not true, but I get to say it anyway.
I’ve watched Apple employees work. They work their asses off. They take abuse from customers who feel entitled to abuse them because once upon a time that customer bought an iPod. They’re smart and capable and do their jobs with more cheer than you have just typing in a forum. If you have nothing contributory to say, try shutting up.

If he was a “Genius” he would have gone to college so he wouldn’t be stuck making $14 at age 30.

9.1% unemployment in the USA hmm, I bet there are a lot of college educated kids that work at Apple
but can’t find work other then retail.  Oh and retail employees don’t get to have all those holidays that most Americans get. Why because they have to work and put up with all your stupid shit.

Yes but we should not raise someones wages because he could make more somewhere else (if he used his education)

what is unfair about 14/hr at retail? move up to the genius bar or find a better job. 14/hr for an entry level position that doesnt require previous computer experience is great pay (i know 14/hr is entry level because I’ve worked Apple retail & AppleCare before finding an even higher paying job. Both great jobs to have)

    Ha Ha
Apple will now follow in the path of GM.
He must be a Microsoft plant.
If you can not beat them, unionize them.

Good for Cory Moll! I support them and hope they unionize the store in Arlington, VA at Market Commons. Employers have nothing to fear from a unionized staff–it’s a win for everyone.
