BlackBerry PlayBook rolling out to 16 new countries soon

mobile

RIM has announced that the company’s first BlackBerry tablet will go on sale in sixteen new countries over the next month, including Australia, France, Germany, India, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. Its unclear if RIM has any carrier partners lined up or how much the device will retail for abroad. In the United States, Sprint most recently announced that it will begin selling the Wi-Fi PlayBook, and it also has plans to sell a 4G WiMAX version of the tablet this summer. Read

What?  No snide remark?  WTF!  This ain’t BGR.  The aliens have kidnapped Boy G and left a poor imitation in his place.  Where the heck is the iOS5 Day 4 diary?  I want to know what other neat features Jo jo creamed his jeans on.

Cool so more people in more places cannot buy the playbook either.

    Nice work blackberry.

wow…thats an intelligent remark that made a whole lot of sense….

Maybe the Playbook isnt selling as poorly as BGR speculates?

i think the whole idea behind the playbook needing a blackberry near by to take advantage of all its features really doesn’t allow them to have the most profitable growth in the market. If their goal was to gather new consumers other than current blackberry users, then they should have thought about this from the start. i really do consider looking at the playbook but because of that one simple fact, it stirs me away, as im sure it does with others. i do not own a blackberry.

I think you are right.  It would be hard pressed for non-BB owners to buy the PB in its current state.  No native email, calendar and contact are a huge blunder.  That said, though, what will people complain about when the 4G version comes out later this summer with its own PIM?  I guess the lack of apps will still be a problem although RIM is addressing that issue with the Android app player.  iPad will continue to dominate the tablet market for the foreseeable future but I am glad there are other options.

At least they will be able to supply them to customers unlike the useless competition who are constantly sold out ha ha. Go RIM Go.
    O wait….

You only need Blackberry Bridge to access BES and BIS. The Tethering is independent of any phone and will give you full access to the web though 3g/4g phones. Full native email support is coming, but you still can attach files in Gmail using the full web browser or using the Native Facebook app. There also third party POP accounts apps for email also if you want.

I’m surprised that people keep raising the canard that you must have a BlackBerry smartphone to make the PlayBook work and that only BlackBerry owners are buying them. From the contact I have with several distributors, I can tell you that the majority of PlayBooks are selling to new tablet customers, not previous BlackBerry smartphone owners. Customers are looking for a powerful tablet and are selecting the PlayBook over many competitors.

Yay! Uruguay and Nigeria should add greatly to the dismal sales! Grats!

What happened to that BGR EXCLUSIVE saying Playbooks were selling poorly and being returned? No follow up report?

    • QNX Please

Because it was made up by some inside source at one single store, and Geller framed it like it was a nation wide phenomenon.

“soon” again so it will be ready for X mass sell?

    Dear BGR,

Where’s the eff’n story on the recall of Ipad 2 devices?

You didn’t waste time to post about the recall of a thousand Playbooks.

If that was news then so is the topic noted above.

Try to be less biased in the future.

    Thanks.

well said! Most of those PlayBooks didnt even make it into the hands of customers yet and were still in the distribution channel. The iPad2s are being delivered and customers have to exchange them. Sounds worse if you ask me!
