My XOOM 3G (still no 4G) is going up on Craigslist now. Touchpad and the best tablet OS here I come.

While I agree WebOS looks great and all, what about apps?
How many apps will be available when released? I’ve seen everyone say PalmPre with webOS had very few apps to choose from.
To me, if there are hardly any apps and all you can do it web surf and check your email, that can be done on any smartphone.
Apps are what make these devices do more than jump on web and throw email at you.
I don’t have a tablet device of any kind yet. I’m still trying to justify a need when I have a computer and a smartphone.

Their keynote talk on it outlined many apps. Also, HP is going to have webOS bootable on their PCs. I think the developers will embrace webos more than most think. They also fully support their homebrew community.

How many apps do you have on your i device right now? 30? 40? Point being, you don’t need 100,000 apps to compete anymore. Its not an apps race.

It’s not about how many apps you have on your device, it’s how many are available. How many internet sites do you visit daily? 10? 30-40? A couple hundred? You don’t *need* the near infiniteness of the internet, but it’s nice having something where you can find just about anything you need.

When App Stores reach a big enough size (i.e. right around where Apple and Google are at) it gets to the point where you can find just about anything you need.

Not sure that’s true if you have a couple hundred or a couple thousand apps available.

Give me the Pre 3 already!

I like Palm products. My centro was this shit. However a lot of people say that HP is going to scrap webOS and that the new ceo is just trying to make use of it because he would have never bought palm.

AKA if Web OS matures and they start putting more hardware out, I may jump ship.

I’m sure they will sell a whole gross of these within the first year. No doubt no doubt.

No need to pre-order kids. There won’t be any lines for this launch. Nice product but highly unlikely to sell.

    Cant wait!

Excellent work HP Marketing, cause nothing makes me want a tablet more than a printer in the background.

      good eye.

Five months from announcement to (planned) release date and one year since taking over Palm, HP finally manages to dribble this thing out the door. It will be interesting to see if this has been worth the wait.

Nice, that seems like a very reasonable price to me dude.

Another tablet that won’t make it.  The average person has no idea what webOS is and will just go buy an iPad for the same price.  Price this at $399 and HP might sell enough to get back in the game.

  • Anyone

WebOS from HP with little or no apps to chose from. Another DOA slate.

  • Anonymous

snapdragon cpu? Dual core? At least they matched the iPad price … :-)

  • joshie

I really like WebOS, but I fear without apps this won’t take off. It’s annoying there is no SD card slot. They (and other manufacturers, to be fair) really rip off customer who want more memory.

  • Neckbone5

This will be a flop…Dont buy one!  The price will be slashed in half by Christmas for these touchpads.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t rush out to buy anything webOS I would just wait for a month or two after the PreCentral members rush out and buy the first batch they will be trying to give them away like the weekly ads at bestbuy.

  • apetra

I haven’t been this excited by a product launch since OS/2 Warp!  That was the best OS of its era, and we all know how it trumped the competition!  Apps, pfhaw!  It’s all about the OS man.
